So I've watched a tutorial and have been reading up on fcs. I was more looking to edit my current save. Change my characters stats and add some new gear. Create and edit some hire-able companions and mercenaries, and change my gold. Is any of this possible with fcs or the in-game editor?

You can add companions but I'm nut certain about editing save games. I do know that information is in those tutorials if you take the time to read them.

new gear and more people to hire are easy in the construction set. however modifying your save game is not possible with the FCS. this tool only changes the base game it does not touch the save files.

if you would like more help on new gear and NPC just ask. I can tell you most anything you will need on these topics.

you can open your savegame file
in the FCS select Open Any, its the last option on the tool bar on the right.

after that.. idk as i never edited that part. you will have to look around the forums for that.

Editing a save game is fairly straight forward, just do as Hatsune_Neko said. However I've only been able to edit character stats without breaking it. Inventory items are not saved with the character but independently, the format dose not really make sense so I'm not sure how to go about adding/removing stuff. I've also noticed that editing the character stats in a save game is not as effective as it should be. For example, if you edit a new characters combat skills to 70 he'll only be about as effective as a modified start setting the combat skills to 40. I have no idea why.
