After some time, I have finally been able to make a custom piece of armour work properly in-game. I have been able to add it to shop vendors and include blueprints and research for the item. When I attempt to learn the blueprint or research, it is learned but not craftable at the respected crafting station, the Heavy armour smithy. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Simple way : edit the functionnality of any existing bench (cloth/leather/plate etc) and add your armor to the list of craftable stuff.
Or if you want a specific bench (to ensure compatibility) you can copy the bench + the functionnality (and link everything).
Of course add the research so people can get it.
