Performance Mods?

I'm not heavily into modding, but there tends to be unofficial performance patches for some of the games I've played. Is there a communuty-recognized patch/mod that helps smooth some of the performance imperfections similarly to the way Minecraft's Optifine used to do?

there are some on steam workshop and on nexus.
sorry i dont have their names though.
