Hello, I was wondering if there is a guide to how to create textures, specifically npc bodies. I don't know much about modding art assets, but I did manage to recolor a set of armor using trial and error.
My intention is to simply recolor a human body texture green, as I am making a Fallout-like Super Mutant mod. I would like to know if anyone knows the specs for exporting the .dds (like compression, format, mipmaps?) for that specific texture. Sorry if this is noobish or has already been answered.
Correct texture compression/encoding...
DXT3 as compression should work. Also set it to generate mipmaps.

Hey, thanks. I will try this soon, I never chose to generate mipmaps so that may be why the textures weren't working.
EDIT:
Unfortunately it didn't work. The body of the character is just matte black no matter what I do to the texture.

Nope, nothing seems to work. I'm out of ideas.

I am using GIMP. But I really burned myself out trying to get the textures to work, because none of the compressions work, no. However, I did discover a workaround: I created (copied) a editor_data.XML for the Super Mutant race, which not only allowed me to make them green by changing the skin tone slider, but also let me customize their proportions to be larger than human.

Alright, I re-read and re-read the post you linked and it finally clicked when I looked at the resource.cfg in the data folder. The game won't read custom folders unless you add the path to the the right area in that document.
Going to try to make my Super mutie skins again. Thanks Butta!

Oh, I assumed that you put the files in the default folders.
Well, if you encounter another issue, feel free to ask again!
EDIT: Also your mutant looks really cool! You should make your mod public once it's finished.
