I recently lost my +160 hour save when I had to wipe my old hard-drive and build a new computer. Obviously, I've lost a ton of progress and a near unbeatable squad, and I don't have 160 hours at my disposal to create a new squad from scratch. I would need to be able to modify character stats and etc, yet I have no idea where to start, let alone if such a thing is even possible.

With that being said, does anyone know of a way to mod savegames to replicate my original squad?

I'm pretty sure you can mod a custom start with all your characters, but you'll have to put in all their stats and equipment by hand, their should be tutorials for that in the mod section, or on the guides section on steam.

Perhaps I have not done enough searching, but I'm unable to find any tutorial for a custom start

you will need to use and learn the FCS ( Forgotten construction set )
located in the default install directory. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Kenshi

you will also need to install dotnet4.0Client (needed for mod tools).exe located in the dependencies folder.

This I am familiar with, it's the actual process with which I mod my own start preset that I do not know.

Here's my best suggestion. Start a new game. Use the FCS to edit the save game and give you back your money. Hire the same number of characters as your old squad. Rename them after your old guys. Use the FCS to edit all their stats. I've messed with it to experiment with the game mechanics. It's much easier to modify existing games than it is to create the old ones from scratch.
