Resurrecting the dead (key codes)

I bought Kenshi as part of Gamergate Indiefort Bundle way back in 2012. The GG account still lists it, and I still have the key from it.

I so liked the game (then) that I bought into the Indiegogo sponsorship campaign. I think I paid for the "Named Character in game" level, where I could define an NPC with skills for inclusion. But I never got to build the character. Kenshi was undergoing rapid development, and I had a "healer" in mind, for all of the surgery and robotic replacements that were upcoming in the future.

I still have the sponsorship email from Cap'n Deathbeard, containing a second key. (Jul 2nd, 2012!)

RL stopped me keeping up with developments, and building the character. I last played in late 2012... 2 new PC's since then... But now I have the time to try it again, and am struggling to find the right way to resurrect the dead.


Neither of those keys were for steam.

I have read that the steam version is a DRM free version, so presumably once installed it will not need the steam client to be running, for Kenshi to work. Which would be OK.

BUT, I am loathe to install steam, just to be able to download the latest version.
I am trying the torrent, with mixed success. (0.93 is downloading, but 0.95 just sits there)

My main question is, will those two old keys still work, to turn the demo version into the full version?
I get the impression there is a new key system, and am uncertain whether my old keys will be recognised.

Lastly, I would love to be able to redeem those keys in GOG at some point. That's where I like to keep all my games - in the DRM free world. Not necessarily right now, but at some point at or soon after "Official Release".

I suspected the Named Character option might be too far gone to resurrect. Awesome news if not.
I will certainly contact Koomatzu regarding getting the two keys updated.

I'm still waiting for the 0.93 torrent to finish.
I was going to try the old keys with that, before pestering anyone any further.

Mine was just recently added to the game. you just need the basic options of what you want and the stats and a backstory if you want them to have one.
