Boom. *Soldier Blxz43 has died*
Soldier Blxz45 has panicked and shoots wildly and has killed Soldier Blxz44 by mistake.
Man this game is awesome. My Impossible-level game is going poorly (or well if you like wanton destruction of life), but man it is a blast. I've lost so many guys that I think it is now impossible for me to win the game. I just don't have the income to buy new weapons since I've reached the point where I am just buying more meat to send into battle. I heartily encourage people to check this out if they have not already.
On my normal save I'm doing nicely as well. Only lost a few guys when my arabic Rookie came in, panicked and dropped a grenade into my veteran dudes before running into the middle of alien crossfire. Other than that losses have been contained. The story is sperg-tasticly average but very fun in general. Not having played the original to the finish I can't be sure how things are different but on the whole it seems to be a nice, good, solid remake. Shooting feels solid and powerful and the difficulties are well balanced (at least for a newb) so that, at least on normal, you feel ahead of the curve and strong but the fear of a slip-up ruining things is just around the corner.
Anyway, this was me coming up for a breath. I'm going to dive back under shortly but I just wanted to give a heads up to anyone who may not have thought about getting this game for fear of the recent blight among niche PC games lately with unplayable releases....this game is highly playable and I have yet to see a crash; unless you mean plasma crashing into the face of my newest recruit and killing him horribly, in which case...there have been many.

Yeah I've been having a real fun time with it personally. May have lost my game though. Lost like three majors on one mission then my three captains in subsequent missions. I've only got two skilled vets at this point.
Also a bunch of my recruits are getting manhandled by a mech.

Had my first encounter with the big mechs just before in some big secret spaceship. Got lucky and took it down due to a double tap double critical from my sniper. But yeah, have seriously lost almost all of my psi guys in a freak battle shortly after posting here. And no new recruits seem to have the ability so I've only got 1 psi person left. Things are getting tight.

Does someone mind linking me the download place? Or do you have to buy it?
I've only played about 18 hours. And much dissatisfaction has been had (in the most satisfying way). My guys keep dying and there have been many fucks and shits and other such words thrown about. After getting much of my squad wiped out and being left with only rookies and 1 or 2 squaddies I've restarted. Only little girls go back to an earlier save =)
My new plan is to skip lasers and focus on getting plasma weapons quickly. I was too slow in rolling out plasma to everyone and then didn't have enough materials for armour too and this left me weak and with a bunch of useless laser weapons in the final stages.
Will also be having a determined focus on capturing enemies so I can use their weapons rather than killing them. And satellites... and well, I'll be doing a lot of things differently this game.
Also dragyouintohell, you will need to buy it. I bought it through gamersgate since it was about $20 cheaper than steam AND I got a steam key anyway so I downloaded it from the steam servers and play with all my other games...sucks to be them. I have no doubt that other inline vendors will have it for sale too. A bit of advice though, only the preorders have the ability to customise your troops. This is a fun little thing and helps you to connect with your dudes. But I heard that boxed copies will also have this so if you get the chance to pick up a boxed copy you should go for it. Otherwise, it's no biggie. but you won't be able to watch an avatar of yourself die....painfully while your in-game avatars of your girlfriend, friends and family watch on knowing that if they had actually made that last shot then you would still be alive...

You want a REALLY good X-COM game? Play Apocalypse.

Well, been doing well in this new game. Had a few issues losing people this time since I was going more high risk/high reward this time. but I can now outfit my whole sqaud with light plasma rifles captured from the aliens. Also, got about 2 thirds of my base built up and earning over $2000 a month from satillites everywhere except for 2 places (and one withdrawn) plus the africa bonus. Also, I haven't even assaulted the alien base so it is still VERY early in the game. I am much stronger this time.
The only problem is that almost every squaddie has become a sniper. I don't really have much use for them, need more assault guys... unlucky.

True. but the game is about those dice rolls. It is about losing your guys because all 6 of them decided to miss a 94% chance shot. So the game changes to something that is about minimizing the effect of those bad times as best you can. And you can't do that every time.Mattk50 wrote:This game is really bad. Whether you win or lose, past about a 10 minute "what do i do to maximise my chances" is all up to dice rolls.
To be fair though, they really could have added more weapon types in the game. There are like 3 tiers which is shit. And the armour is pretty average. But, DLC it is.
