Gotta just do them right is all. Some are just prone to fails, and some are working for years and years, not sure why. Quality components? Good airflow? Luck? Meh.

Was it a Seagate drive, by chance? :)

It was a seagate actually. My 3tb one. I had it for like 6 years.
It had failed to format. So guessing it failed same time my mb did.

We did suspect it had failed originally but tests with a ssd from my brother in law showed it was the mb that was causing the problems. so we didnt continue testing the hd.
So far thats three parts that failed.
Motherboard
Power supply
And my main hard drive.

The one that really sucked was the power supply. It wasn't even a year old and died some time durring the five months of no activity. Least it was still under warranty.

Guess 6 years is respectable age. But i still don't trust them. They're the least reliable drives, of all major brands, according to some data.

Important thing i've learned building PCs: never cut on the PSU. You either need a 100-200 Watt reserve or some 80+ certificates, and still some reserve, just in case. After all, in case of failure, you might lose ALL of your components because of the cheap PSU. Plus, if it's a really good one, it can survive several builds even. Good thing yours was under warranty still.

Same goes for MoBo, actually, mid-range is always a good idea, and from either MSI or Asus too. Never liked Gigabytes for some reason, and ASRocks seem shoddy.

Anyway, hope your new components are going to be well and mighty :)

Nice. 10th can be extremely annoying at times, but at least you're gonna be compatible with all the latest stuff.

oh i know
i was one of the beta testers.
but i like the OS version over others
but everything is now running smoothly.
had to fix a issue with steam at first. it kept knocking my PdaNet software offline and locking that program up.
would be so much easier if where i lived had anything resembling internet before 1980.
