When I started playing Kenshi, I thought it was odd that cannibals live almost exclusively in the most highly fertile and rainy regions of the game. Why go through all the trouble of hunting the most dangerous game if you can just grow all the potatoes you want?
Well, it turns out that IRL cannibals also historically lived in regions with plentiful natural food -- with the exception of protein! Settled farming communities in highland regions with little access to protein tend to use the most marginal meat sources, including mice, frogs, and occasionally, long pork.
Considering that wild animals in Kenshi are extremely strong compared to baseline humans, and that the rainy regions are poor places to grow wheat (a good plant protein source), it makes sense that they'd go after weak humans to avoid protein starvation.
I don't know if that's intentional, but it is cool.

Ha, what do you know. An I never tried to check cannibal plains for fertility, it looked rather barren and desolated. I've always been thinking that this is just what their culture has devolved into: agressive tribal human hunting. Maybe they just don't fancy any veggies?

Obviously the cannibals are just super conscious about overpopulation and global warming. Thank you cannibals, for keeping the world livable. We could not have done it without you.
Or you know. They are just savages who probably don't even know how to grow food and has lost so many brain cells due to cannibalism that they can't even understand: Seed goes in earth -> wait and water (and kill raptors) -> Profit.Obviously the cannibals are just super conscious about overpopulation and global warming. Thank you cannibals, for keeping the world livable. We could not have done it without you.
