Legacy of Kain question

This started when I analyzed thoroughly the series, so here's the question: were the Hylden even aware of the Elder God, and along the series have they ever considered facing him since vampires no longer are aware of them, especially because the Elder God no longer supports the vampires? I mean, when Kain was fighting the last boss (not mortanius, the post-transformation demon), you can see that the Hylden had pulled strings. However, after their failure and after the vampires no longer remembered of them, were they even considering fighting the Elder God by getting out of the Demon Realm, or has the demon realm taken their memories of the Elder God along their sanity? It's just so confusing! They were both fighting the same foe, the vampires no longer served the elder god and they no longer were the Ancient Vampires, rather a different species alltogether (technically speaking).
