First of all, consider a big IMO for the whole post ;)

I was watching this video about big rigs (brought to you by the [sarcasm]great[/sarcasm] guy behind war z) video review on gamespot. The game got an abysmal 1.0 (cause they can't give 0). This made me think about the worst games i played...

So what's your worst game? Pls only post games you played actually (or saw someone play irL)

For me, i found it to be pretty hard to remember them actually

The few games i remember that were bad for me for different reasons were:

Spore for not bringing 1% of what Wright promised, then when i found out i could only install it 3 times before it was game over, i brought it back to the shop right away

In a sense Stalker too was for me a bad experience because i played the raw game before any patches were released, one minute of gameplay could probably fill the bug forum over here  (i did actually end up playing it til the end about a year after buying it lol)

There are probably a few I'm forgetting ( i guess it's harder to remember them than thinking about the good ones), but i believe the top of my worst games list would be for
American McGee's Bad Day LA
at least until i remember an even worse game
Why Bad day LA? Well it just screwed up everything on every front . Fortunately i bought it for only 1 or 2e while waiting at Media Markt for the line to advance, so i didn't loose much, but god never again did I buy a game without watching/reading at least one review (maybe with a few exceptions).

You should always proofread carefully to make sure you didn't any words out.

Risen II:

The way the company changed the mechanics around made the game feel rather fake compared to is predecessors. Horrible waste of money.

Making of a prophet. Sure MDickie had made good games and there was the YouTestament, but yet again Making of a Prophet took stuff from the YouTestament, including the cross on which Jesus was crucified.

southpark on n64...omg that game was super boring...

marvel vs capcom 3...just ruined it for me, marvel vs capcom 2 effing brilliant.

every badly glitchy game *for me and my pc, not gospel for everyone* I mean even the small glitches and stuff, if there is a game I love and it has glitches, that just ruins it for me...really miss these games :( gta 4, borderlands 1 and 2, halflife 2 and bms, starcraft 2... they were all the superfavourites that have glitches I can't look past.. sometimes I want to kick my pc in the balls..

Dark Spore

the beta was good (free to) and it played kinda like diablo, except your abilities were based on the abilities of the others you chose to be in your squad.
The thing that made this game so bad was that when it went full retail and "finished". it was unplayable by those who played the beta. There was hundreds of posts about the bug and as far as i know it never got fixed. I re-installed (didnt work) re-installed steam (didnt work) tried multiple times within a year of having payed for the game (still didnt work) I have not bothered to even try since

If i was in america, i probably would have tried to sue for my money back

Mass Effect.

No I am not kidding, This is the worst game I have ever played, I could not get into it and I don't see how anyone did. Bought it, Installed it, played for like 4 hours, uninstalled it, returned it.

I liked mass effect, not my favourite, but not bad either. The only thing I didn't like about it i think was the constant saved status. It seemed like the game would save before each fight, so there was not that "urgency" feel when your shields are down and loosing just meant going back to almost just before the fight. Anyway the story was great and i liked playing as a sniper elite "who gets the job done no matter what"

The one game i remember buying, playing a few hours and returning was Dead Space. Not saying the game wasn't good, but i just couldn't get accustomed to the camera, eg couldn't walk straight, always having the guy over half the screen, ...

Elemental - War of Magic, a ridiculous number of bugs, and not even worth playing, it had potential in the earliest beta I played, but every iteration it got worse. I actually thought they were doing it on purpose, showcasing the least fun aspects of the game to polish them, but in fact that terrible pile of garbage was what they released. But after it was universally critically panned and no one liked it Stardock actually offered refunds, and said anyone who didn't want a refund would get two expansions for free. Elemental - Fallen Enchantress was a much better game, and E:FE Legendary Heroes is actually pretty fun. The beta was pretty bad, the AI was idiotic but it got better over patches and released with a decent game. Somehow the game itself was just so awful to start with that I can hardly bring myself to enjoy E:FE:LH because it just reminds me of how shitty Elemental was.

I'm not sure where I stand on dead space. I mostly hate shooters. And I mostly hate jump scare games/movies. But for some reason I bought dead space, played it all night and then sold it back to EB the next morning having completed the whole thing in a single sitting.

I think I enjoyed it, it certainly has made it to the very small list of games I have fully finished (small list percentage-wise, there are still a lot on that list but it is only a fraction of what i have played). But I would never go back and play it again and I never had any desire to buy any sequel. maybe I was just bored and home alone that night?

I don't think dead space was bad in itself, there were a few elements that i found original when i read about it, eg getting into space and hearing nothing but your breath seemed to set a nice scary atmosphere and I generally don't hate that sort of games (except doom which was not scary, just ...)
but i really just couldn't play with that POV. Maybe it's different on tv, but for me, on PC, just not possible.

Talking about scary games, there was only one game that made me literally shout out loud (only once) and that game isn't even supposed to be scary...

Curious? That game was called Dark Messiah of Might and Magic

Now for the story behind that:
scary.JPG
scary.JPG (57.76 KiB) Viewed 6487 times
I was playing alone in the living room at my aunties house at around midnight with my laptop and a surround sound heatset.

I don't remember when exactly in the game it happened, but it was the scene where ghouls attack for the first time.

I was concentrated on the game not expecting ghouls (didn't know about them yet) and suddenly I start hearing faint panting/out-of-breath sounds coming from behind me. The thing is it was approaching really fast homing in on me. At that point i tried turning in game (and maybe irl too) and I literally freaked out and shouted out loud, and half a minute later I was apologizing to everyone who I had startled

The game was already worth it only for that special moment :D

that sux, i had to pay for both the expansions. and i found there was bugs and the game always crashes randomly. this would have to definatly be my second worst game ever played.
so much i can say they didnt do, its the quality you expect from an indie game but made with a big team.
Death magic/Assasin combo is just to powerful.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by this. Many indie games are incredibly good quality products. There are always the ones that are made of pure crap but on the whole I've found that indie games tend to be a pretty good quality, if made with a lower budget.

Could you explain what indie games you are referring to that have quality that you "expect" to be in the range of your second worst game ever?

If you have ever played Stardocks Elemental series then you will understand what i mean maybe.

With most of Stardock games, they are good but always lacking something.
With elemental they were lacking ALOT, they kept releasing standalone expansions to the original that always left you expecting more. The games just feel rushed, heres some examples of why i say this.

The Elemental Campaign felt like it ended almost as soon as it started, also it only showed the "good" races not going into the "evil" races.
The skill tree is very unbalanced, having more bonuses for certain classes making other classes worthless.
The Magic aspect of the game was unbalanced, the Death magic was overly powerful and was also the only magic letting you learn all others. (this was made better in expansions but is still the strongest)
Constant crashes and bugs that didnt get fixed in the expansion.
And more but im sure you get the picture....

When i said it was the quality you expect from an indie game, i only meant that you expect it to be low budget nothing else. So when i think of indie games i almost always think, 2D, retro, great gameplay, all the little things. Ofcourse this was just rushed so it could have been an awsome game but they stuffed it.
I do love the game idea and such, but whoever was behind it i dont like

I feel you are missing out on some great indie games out there. Kenshi is an indie game that is neither 2d nor retro. Sure, it's not finished but hopefully it will be a good game by itself, regardless of indie status in enough time.

There are other indies out there, check out the indie game thread here in the off topic forum. I think the majority of those are 3d and quite a few offer high quality gameplay and graphic resolution. Anything from planet explorers to kerbal space program to god knows what else. Happy hunting and remember to update the thread if you find any more great indies out there.

Heh, Legendary Heroes is okay. But that's it, Elemental was a deeply flawed creature, and what it really needed more than anything else was to rethink, well... almost everything about strategic combat, for one thing. Hexes are used in strategy for a reason, they normalize movement, in any square grid game that doesn't limit your diagonal movement your most efficient method of crossing a distance is always angular. They could have restricted that, but even still... Magic was ridiculously overpowered in the first one, to the point where you could immediately slaughter massive armies with an army of three spell casters with high initiative. Dirge of Cersea was particularly effective as you could convert all the mana nodes you discovered into death magic nodes, meaning you could basically destroy entire armies with one spell, toss a few fireballs to finish off stragglers, and you were done. The first game didn't divvy up XP, it simply gave everyone XP. This meant that your most efficient army for slaughtering hundreds of soldiers was a group of nine hero units. In the end you could have each of them lead an army of the best units you could come up with if you felt like it, or you could just walk over everything.

The game was boring then, and it's boring now, because the AI is ridiculously simplistic. They effectively will all either cower at your feet if you're bigger than they are, or they will add declare war on you if you're smaller than they are. They calculate their strength by some ridiculous algorithm so they think that when you have a couple of godlike stacks of units that can slaughter anything they can produce that you're ripe for the pickings because you only have a handful of cities that are bordered by immensely powerful fortresses. They send in everything they have, you slaughter it, they sue for peace and then declare war on you again in one turn. Brad Wardell is touted as a great AI designer, and I know he did a fairly good job with GalCiv and GalCiv II but Elementals factions are all effectively lobotomized, and in a game that is largely about conquering others these insipid nitwits are a lackluster fare even on the most challenging difficulties. And this is Legendary Heroes, played one goofy way that really should not work nearly as well as it does. But every game in the series has had one major flaw, the first one had a few melee heroes capable of slaughtering entire civilizations with a couple of simple spells on them, or magic so devastating as to wipe armies out with ease. But it was terribly boring. Fallen Enchantress was Derek Paxton sewing the head back onto the corpse of Elemental, and Legendary Heroes hits it with a few million volts to animate it into something functional.

Ultimately Elemental was always pretty but shallow, and even hiring Kael couldn't make the game nearly as interesting as Fall From Heaven II which I find somewhat odd. I don't know if he didn't have enough autonomy, or if certain strictures kept him from creating something great out of what is admittedly a very pretty engine...

For me, the worst part of Legendary Heroes is that even if they had done the sensible thing and had a gameplay mode where much of the world is covered in the Wildlands, made some less difficult wildlands and seperated factions by large swaths of wilderness that had to be tamed and conquered before a scout would even survive the trip across to meet other factions, so you had to fight the world itself for every inch of territory... The AI is so useless that it fails to grasp the needed actions to free wilderness from the hands of enemies, it doesn't loot chests properly or complete quests, so they would effectively just sit in their starting areas until the world overran their cities. Except, of course, the AI cities never get attacked by neutral monsters. So that takes even the sort of fun that can be had with Raging Barbarians in Civilization out of the picture.

It's a shame, because the idea of the wildlands was good, and the creatures contained therein sometimes show a glimmer of something that could have been expanded upon to create a really entertaining game.

Comparing Elemental to an indie game is besmirching indie developers, the sorts of things they could do with the amount of money that was pissed away on that game... Dozens of individual small team projects could have been funded. If Stardock has any sense they'll let the poor thing die now, and perhaps allow Kael to head up a team dedicated to making something more akin to Fall From Heaven.

Heh well that pretty much sumed it all up.
I didnt mean to say indie games were as bad as this, just that this game really made Stardock lose alot of reputation, especially with the way they released the "expansions".
