From what i have noticed about the armor system, the armor has a "soak" number, and a coverage percentage. so my question to you guys is, which armor do you find yourself using, and which do you find working the best?
so far my best getup is:
shop guard barbarian heavy plate
a blackened chain shirt
samurai plate boots
and samurai pants
i forget the stats for those at the moment, later i will put those up. The fundamental question is: which is better, high coverage percentage or damage soak?
What is the best armor configuation?
I'm starting to lean more to the samurai breastplate as the barbarian lowers attack speed just enough to get my attention.
Otherwise same except cloth samurai pant, same numbers currently, without the speed debuff.
I'm inclined to go to coverage, particularly as vitals are concerned, but when it's close, I go for looks. (samurai boot, case in point)
An FYI to a fellow armor scrounger: Mr Floppy in Brink in my game is sporting a set of crazy sexy .9 black samurai boots. I highly recommend mugging him if you're running guys with the Darth Vader thing going on. My topper wielder wears an old blackened chain headband and black cargos to complete the effect. Also in my game shop guards there have the old armored pant with uninspiring stats and 'unique' mismatched boots, if you're partial to those.
Edit: This was before squad import, none of these things existed in Brink after import to new map. Forgotten I'd decided to wait a bit until I was sure walls were stable. Hope nobody borked their faction with Brink before a save... srry. /edit
Edit: Heh, just went and checked guard barbarian to see if you caught something I hadn't... In my game they're really low end, like .36 or something. I've gotten .54s from vendors. Even found a .54 black cargo pant somewhere this week. I have those on my Frag axe guy, he's already atrociously slow, may as well keep him standing long enough to mow a few fellas (70 str 25 dex). I have a .47 Holy armor wearer and a higher than usual holy helm and top tier visored helm as well. What I'm getting at, is that if you scrounge hard enough you can get any armor in almost any stat range currently, Thus coverage vs. speed mods is what it really boils down to at this point imo. Though I have yet to find a .54 samurai breast or any .54 leggings beyond the one.

I don't think this is actually off-topic. It still relates to the game. Maybe general would be the best fot this to be?
