Truffles!!!
I got my first harvest of black truffles today. 335grams after washing and cutting with additional harvests expected every week until august.
At about AUS $2 per gram I'm pretty happy. Maybe the last 8 months and a 4000km transcontinental move have been worth it.
Yay for me!

Quite an interesting taste. Just had my first tonight. When they are raw and shaved on top of a cream pasta the flavour is quite intense and I can't tell if it is pleasant or unpleasant. When cooked lightly the flavour infuses right into things; almost to the point that you wouldn't notice it if you weren't looking for it. I must say it is quite nice but I don't think I'd pay that much to buy it under normal circumstances unless I wanted to show off to a girl.
When you have a bunch of them in one place the smell is almost overwhelming. I can't open my fridge without smelling the musk of a pig on heat. It is kind of like an odd mix of chocolate, tomato and that generic earthy smell. Really hard to describe.
EDIT: Here are my cut and cleaned truffles. They are all dirty and lumpy when you dig them out but I've scrubbed them down and trimmed the edges off to make them look nicer.

well then it would be pointless for me to try em. i dont have a developed sense of taste ( pun not intended ) and cannot tell the difference and subtleties when certain items are added to food.

I prefer pie I can usually get it for around .8 cents a gram. I am yet to meet a grower though.
Do you just grow these yourself? That's rather interesting.

I do indeed grow these. It doesn't fully support me so I still work a few days a week in an office job; but the rest of the week I trade my tie and pants in for chainsaws and steel-capped boots around the farm.

My father dirnks fosters. All the home movies when I was a child features that blue can. I'm a much more refined drinker although I don't think you guys would recognise the beer brands.Hatsune_Neko wrote:Kamos wrote:Australian, chainsaw, truffles, highest post count. You're crazier than I thought.

And the chainsaw is how I keep my post count at the top of the pile. You might notice that toaser assassin, isuck345, 1337, gusmil and txfirefighter were gaining posts very quickly but are no longer around. Mwahahaha.

You should help me grow truffles. That sounds like something fun to do.

Apparently blxz, the black hole of morality, likes catgirls, because he never turned that chainsaw against me. Still, hearing it rev makes me somewhat nervous. I wonder if his chainsaw is one of the ones with a warning printed on it saying "do not attempt to stop chain with genitles"...
