Airships
A simple yes or no will suffice, but is there ANY possibility of airships?
I'm thinking ones which are ships made of wood connected to a patched together balloon via rope. If you've played Air Buccaneers, you'll know what I mean.
I realise the tech is suppose to be very low, but this isn't exactly high tech. A wooden platform, some cloth, some rope, and a fireplace to provide the heat.
I'm not sure exactly how they could be used, but possibly as REALLY long distance travel. They wouldn't be cheap, though. Not by a long shot. They could also have the possibility to break and crash, meaning you can't have completely riskless trading.
I dunno. I just think airships would look good in the Kenshi world, but I'm EXACTLY sure on the tech level.

I think there will be fast travelling in the final game, so for transportation of men it would be somewhat useless. But I can see that it might work for goods and loot
.
But still I don't think it should be in the game, I mean it will be too complicated adding air travelling. Then we need air combat and stuff like that else we can't harm enemy balloons. But a nice thought and it could maybe work if Chris is up to program airships into the game
And I just searched and couldn't find a thread about it, so I think it's good you started one

It can make the fast travel take less time and it can intimidate bandits too! Oh and in case of an atack, it can be used to enchance defense against the atackers.

I think air ships would be awesome and fit perfectly with the game world. I also think it keeps the immersion rather than fast travel which is kind of lame as your army/traders/whatever would have no challenge in the logistics of getting around the world...just magically teleport beteen places. I think fast travel would break trading as you cna just teleport between cities with your full pack and churn out cash.
In their simplest form air ships could just be a fast moving transport you can travel on for a toll between set routes or later game build one yourself and go anywhere as it would be controlled by the player.
I agree it would add a lot of complication to implement because air ships would be screaming for some kind of air combat or a way for ground units to shoot them down but it would be awesome to see one flying overhead with an enemy factions traders in it and shoot it down, fight the guys onboard and steal the juicy loot, or...repair it and take it for your yourself if you have the materials. That way it's a risk vs. reward choice in travelling by air or foot as getting shot down could mean losing your trading haul that’s too heavy to carry in inventory or you could lose a few men overboard as it crashes.
Possibly building one or fuelling one would require a resource only found in the most dangerous areas to avoid players just rushing out an airship and then doing a ninja (excuse the pun) on the resources in dangerous areas without doing the work to get to these areas the hard way first.
I think it is a great idea, this game looks so awesome already and this feature would make the large unpopulated stretches of desert or whatever biomes that come in later quite cool to see as you glide over it to a far away city thinking how long it took you to get over them before...well cool until a harpoon shoots though your balloon

don´t like the idea, that you can control the aircraft, but as a fast travelling system it will be nice!
Exactly like WoW (bad game I know

Maybe but like they are one of the highest techs so they'd take forever to finish researching them you have to biuld a hanger which would cost a lot and the materials to biuld one would cost a lot and also all you get is a floating platform no weapons or anything and the ballon is vournable to missiles and they are all that steady as far as a platform goes and the ai can have balloons of thier own that can attack you and others ect all they really should be is an elivated platform for missile shooters and travel but they can't be to fast

Im 110% positive that i read there will be NO vehicles in the final version of the game.
Why yes, I just destroyed your army, burned your city to the ground, and terrorized the entire continent by myself. Tea?

Yeah, it's not looking good for mounts or vehicles. Chris has said it would break the combat system we have now.karnsetheron wrote:Im 110% positive that i read there will be NO vehicles in the final version of the game.
Although, we were promised a fast-traveling and airships or other vehicles could be one way. Actually, it's really hard for me to think of any reasonable way of implementing fast travelling to this kind of game. I hope it will be thought through very well before adding half ass-ed fast-travel.

when i imagine fast travel, i could see a group of my guys approaching a "caravan" and all my units in a certain radius being taken to another point on the map (via teleporting or something) for a price. At least thats what i imagine it being for Kenshi lol

Could be one possibility but I don't really like just "teleporting". There needs to be explanation for the distance my squad members travel. For example, caravan, airship or other vehicle. But all that takes time to travel. I want the time to advance while the fast travel takes place. One guy can't just appear hundreds of miles away in the same time it took for the next guy to take a shit.karnsetheron wrote:when i imagine fast travel, i could see a group of my guys approaching a "caravan" and all my units in a certain radius being taken to another point on the map (via teleporting or something) for a price. This could also be a primary source of getting merchants to your large-enough-to-have-an-airship-dock town in areas of rough terrain. I like the idea so long as you don't control the airships yourself, but rather they get automated routes based on relations with the airship-owning-faction and trade values.

I dream of the day I start as a retired captain and in case there are airships I buy my own.
Well, time to set up airship "protection" rackets.Tolwrath wrote:This could also be a primary source of getting merchants to your large-enough-to-have-an-airship-dock town in areas of rough terrain. I would like to express my support for this idea. I think having airships, maybe with the same cobbled together look as they have in Guns of Icarus Online, would fix perfectly into this setting.
I think air shipping lanes, maybe even with the ability to build your own airships later, once you start exploring the untamed wilds, would be a great idea.
Maybe introduce some raiding mechanics. And yeah, ship crashes and the like. I think it makes a lot of sense for a semi technological world to have some form of air travel. They could be coal/steam powered, and be used to transport goods.
And lets face it, there aren't that many games that have them in them. In my ideal world, they would be something akin to shipping lanes.
