Hero Mode/Commander mode?
I remember playing an RTS game, that was in the Roman period with Chariots and all of that but I can't remember the name.
Anywho, it was a normal RTS game with one exception. With your hero characters, pressing Q or W (Or a key in that general area), it would zoom in and allow you to control your hero personally in a Third Person View. I actually liked the idea of it, fighting with your own men in war (Much like Mount and Blade) and I was wondering if it would be possible being able to add it into Kenshi?
The game was an old game, because I remember playing it at least half a decade ago. How hard would it be to implant it into Kenshi?

How do you mean, exactly? I assume you are talking about something different than just zooming in on whomever you consider to be your main character during a fight. I don't know if I've ever seen the game you're talking about, though it kind of rings a bell.
It's hard to explain. But I'll try to find some screen shots/the game I'm mentioning.Comatose wrote:How do you mean, exactly? Welp. Found it.

I was talking about a game like this. A fully functional RTS game- that allows you to command a hero and fight as him like in mount and blade. Another game would be like Spellforce 2: Gold Edition on Steam.
The game is kind of old- but I really enjoyed the fact on how you can switch out from RTS to actually fighting. Though would it be possible in a game like Kenshi?
Ohhh ok I see. Although a good idea, I think that it would be a bit contrary to the spirit of the game as it is right now, seeing as though you can't actually control anyone's moves in combat. I don't know is that is slated to change at all, but if it does, and such a option is implemented, it would definitely be fun.
Oh I understand that IF (Emphasis on if) this is able to be implanted. Then it would be in a year or two once the developers get all the necessities done with Kenshi. I don't think I would see this feature in Kenshi, even if the developers said it was able to be implanted into the game due to all the other stuff they have to add in first. I thought it be a nice though, if it was able to be in by the final version and etcComatose wrote:Ohhh ok I see. Dude, that's so true lmao.Comatose wrote:There's always mods, as well. Modders can do a lot of amazing stuff these days. If it weren't for them, nobody would play Bethesda's games anymore lol.
I honestly can't wait to see Kenshi once the final version release. All the stuff that's implanted. Because at the moment, the most you can do is raid cities/build your own/and train.
That's so true, and ah M&B in it's beta stages. I remember then. And now, you have mods that is so much more amazing. I find it pretty awesome how M&B is a low budget game too- just like Kenshi.Comatose wrote:Agreed! I remember how M&B took off after it was finished, and taleworlds is still making titles. Lo-Fi could be a big name in a few years, thanks to this game.
Kenshi gonna go big though, wasn't it a really big hit on steam. Selling more copies than Tomb Raider at a point?
Selling better than tomb raider wouldn't surprise me at all. Games like Kenshi are getting popular. By "games like Kenshi" I mean Indies and such. Don't Starve is selling big too (very fun). Those big franchises are losing steam. Look what happened to Dead Space. Big devs need to take a hard look at what they're doing.
True that. Well I'm off for the night bro. You have fun dude.Comatose wrote:Selling better than tomb raider wouldn't surprise me at all. Games like Kenshi are getting popular. I had also made this recommendation about a week ago. Hopefully Chris sees one of these. I would really love to be able to take control of the combat manually. Would add more complexity and depth to the combat than just right clicking, then sitting back watching.

Just a personal stand point i'd like to see the depth increase as far as being able to execute tactics and flanking bonuses, back stabs and ai that can intelligently execute them as opposed to playing an odd Mount and blade clone, which has a laughable level of difficulty in the single player once you learn how to chamber and feint.

I don't agree with this, I like Kenshi being the X-COM based game it is (and X-COM is quite amazing mind you).
Also, it's not the developers' fault, EA is rushing teams and because of that they release bad games. What they should do is turn to Steam instead of EA.

X-COM is a great game, in all it's versions. I have played all of them from the original X-COM: UFO Defence up to the recent remake. However, Kenshi is not X-COM based. X-COM is a turn based alien strategy game. This is an RPG (role playing game) RTS (real time strategy) sword fighting hybrid, as far as I can classify it at this point. Don't get me wrong. Like I said, X-COM is a great game and I am not saying anything bad about it. Just comparing the two would be like comparing coffee and tea. Just because both have caffeine (or both are strategy games for this analogy), that doesn't make them the same.
While I get the point Marilous is making about not making a Mount and Blade clone, I still think it is a good base model to work with for the combat mode. Obviously we would all hope that it would be more than that, and based on the skills and information available to us already, we know there will be more to combat than there is now. With assassination, bluffing, stealth, and the plethora of other combat related skills listed in each character window, we know there will be much more to the combat than there is now. My suggestion as well as Marilous' ideas would fit well into the game with such a diverse array of abilities.
While I respect that not everyone will agree with each other, and everyone has a different opinion, let me propose this to you. Imagine having to worry about being hit from behind while being surrounded by 3 guys, or even having to manually deflect arrows as you advance on 3 archers. Sure, you could just switch out and let the character fight on his own, and probably lose. But if you want to take the chance and try to beat them with your own skill, it could be amazing. Or you could do worse than if the CPU controlled it, but hey, at least you would feel good that you were in control. Expanding on this, let's paint the picture of a larger fight. Let's say 20 men vs 40 bandits. You can micromanage to the best of your ability, and might be able to pull it off with a well trained group. On the other hand, you could take direct control of your best fighter, or could limit it to your faction leader. Then using your skill as a gamer, proceed to try and tip the scales in your favor by going after high profile targets.
With that said, I don't see how anyone could have a reason why not to implement this. Sure, it is more programming, sure it means more development time, but it also means reaching a larger audience than just having a single option. Remember this is a business model. The larger the audience you can entertain means more revenue earned to put towards improvement, and/or more games from the same developer if he so chooses. I could see expansions for this being a good thing.

Nvever played X-com but seems a good game indeed, but this isn t actually a thing where you must play, this would rather be an optional thing to have, it s there but you not forced to play it, let s say, you have toast, butter and jelly, you can eat the bread with the butter or the jelly, or both, but you not forced to take on both.iSuck345 wrote:I don't agree with this, I like Kenshi being the X-COM based game it is (and X-COM is quite amazing mind you).
Tho till certain point it might be hard or g against current Kenshi stye, because being squad only, i don t think would be a ham to implement this mode, rather the oposite, because look well, it s not a- it s just a +. Sumary: I agree with this, tho should be other mode not hero mode xD.

Yeah sometimes i roll up stuf to much and end up saying nothing, soryr on that, i meant, this would be a rather optional thing, is there but you don t need to use if you don t want, a thing with positive sies and no neg, of course if done should be in the closer end of the game build, unless had to be done togethr with other stuff.
I think is simple xD.

Currently this isn't really much of an option, as there are very limited placeholder animations for the time being. As the project nears release, we'll likely see a lot of additional animations available, although the only confirmed animations will be for unarmed combat. That being said, I'm not sure it really fits with the spirit of the game. I have yet to play a game where I could take manual control of a battlefield resource and not majorly sway the tide of the battle. In keep sieges I could slaughter sixty or more enemies in Mount and Blade, in keep defenses I could easily take out far more than that. This led to some pretty ridiculous situations where I was able to single-handedly make an impossible battle fairly easy. As one of the key tenets of Kenshi is that you are not the Chosen One, allowing you to manually cut a swath through dozens of enemies or aim constant head shots with a bow (when they're implemented) isn't fitting with the game concept. Not to mention that this would allow you to be able to manually jump from one character to another and another and "power level" your primary assault squad. And if you say "well have yourself bound to a specific character!" that doesn't work terribly well either, because then you are the chosen one and a battle without you around stands less of a chance of victory, and if your initial character dies then you would what, select a target to possess until they died? This is Kenshi, not Torment: Tides of Numenera.
It isn't an awful idea, but I personally don't see it as fitting well in this particular title. While it is something of an overlooked aspect in any modern RTS games, it may be because it didn't often work out the way it was intended. The last game I can think of to add a manual control over units was tank mode in Company of Heroes : Tales of Valor, although I personally didn't buy that one because it didn't get good reviews so I am not entirely sure how successful that aspect of it was.
