Archaeology:
There could be a new skill - Archaeology. Players could build excavation sites and have their characters search for fossils and artifacts. Perhaps entire ruins could be discovered scattered throughout the world, some untouched, others occupied by bandits, graverobbers, or other archaeologists, some sites could otherwise have been depleted of their artifacts.

Excavation sites could probably be placed anywhere, though won't always yield results. The potential site should be prospected before building.

Unique Items:
There could be special items of which there is only one copy, or a limited supply. These items will never be deleted, never can be created again, and never truly lost. If dropped on the ground, or left on the corpse of a body, that item will remain when the body decomposes, and some other NPC will eventually pick it up and sell it to a vendor, where it will remain, or, if some sort of better economy is implemented, it can be traded even further by NPCs, allowing it to relocate to new vendors.

Unique items can take the form of most anything.

They could be a special artifact or a fossil, the favorite sword of some war hero, or pretty much anything else. Not all artifacts and fossils would be unique. Unique items are, well, unique. They could have greater stats, typical stats, or simply be a collector's item.

The above two ideas could help shape the lore of Kenshi.

Fossils, artifacts, and unique items could be sold, used, or kept for a personal collection. If the players decide to display them, they could increase the opulence of your town. This would be useful in the following concept.

Town Allure:
When you create a town, the only reason other people have to visit it is to trade or raid. If you spruce it up a bit, more people will find it desirable to visit. You can create museums displaying your archaeological (or bought) findings. You could otherwise create new features that have no historical significance, such as fountains and statues. I mean, if you're rolling in dough in the desert and have water to spare, a fountain is a pretty big deal.

Increasing a town's opulence will attract people to your town, which can be a double edged sword. You'll have more people to trade with, and more people that want to take what you have.

I like the archaeology idea. Something along the lines of the stone quarry or ore mine. Building materials, rusty weapons, machine parts, maybe blueprints or something now and then. Kinda goes with the salvage look of the game.

Sure, ruins would be a great place for archaeology to occur.

Interesting, althought for archeology and unique items I suggest that they are randomized and not just pointint out to one background and instead multiple backgrounds are created and one of them is picked randomly for each new game you create, instead of having just one already discovered and explored background that has become boring.

Why not allow several artifacts, all of which can potentially be found in any save?

Sounds good. Wow, this idea is doing better than I expected.

I like the unique items as well, but MY request was for Archaeology sites. This should probably be split into two threads. Also, everyone support the archaeology sites 'cause I want it.

Doing all that mining and building and stuff to build up my town so I can make crazy awesome swords got kind of stale. Looking forward to someone possibly digging up something awesome would have made it funner.

Artifacts...erm great, so if you collect the whole set you'll get to construct a doomsday machine right? Please tell me there'll be one in the game.
