Hi devs, hi players, just bought the game a few days ago, and i quickly tried to create an arena (which i admit is a bit bugged for now) that gave me some ideas for arena features. I searched a bit the suggestion forum but only found a 2 years old topic about that so, here's how i would see an arena system in this game:
-3-4arena sizes, avaliability depending on tech level
-Arena can stock up to 10 characters (for the last one), and has it's own isolated faction system (which means that a dust bandit could fight another dust bandit, without risks of bug coming from the faction affiliation) with up to 4 different teams. a storage being also implemented, to put armors and weapon to equip gladiators before the fight, as well as a bed-like regen when gladiators are not fighting.
-Arena would have three roles:
A buffer building, it would increase popularity of your town and make more people come in it, as merchant coming to buy stuff.
A training building, where you could make fight your own characters to up their characteristics in combat or sword mastery.
A recruitment building: to congratulate your gladiators (the enslaved ones) you could give them luxury goods, narcotics, rhum, or food supplies. Up to a point, they would start liking this life and you could ask them to join your team. Narcotics and rhum would give the highest reputation bonus, but also a debuff to your gladatior for the next day.
-Arena would consume water and bread to feed the gladiators.
-Different possible politics: you could decide to keep your gladiators whatever the result, or organise fight where the winner gain it's liberty, the last one giving a reputation bonus towards the faction of the now free gladiator.
-Last possible feature, but not the most important: betting system. with enough people coming to your town, they would start betting (the more advanced the arena is, the bigger the bets would be) and you could also bet some of your money, and see if you do know your gladiators!
That's about everything, if you got other suggestions to add or things that you would modify, feel free to post it.
Arena system

That sounds pretty cool.
I'd like to start a professional gladiator group that would get money only from the fights and betting. I would train a super fighter that always wins and I'd make a fortune by always betting on him
After getting fame, cats and chicks I'd build my own arena to a town and get money by bookmaking and maybe build couple shops/market stands to sell rum and cute little bunnies as snacks for the people coming to watch the fights.
My retired master would work as a bouncer with couple other of my older gladiators and capture all the trouble makers and make them fight for their freedom on my arena. Maybe raid a cannibal camp and put the whole village against couple experienced fighters to get some serious bloodshed
I see a world of possibilities

Enjoy this idea plenty, i know there other ideas from arenas but somehow this seems to complete most of them
.
Could also be a sort of law enforcer tool, throw a prisioner into the jail against a savage beast or other dde, having him without weapon or a mere tick, and let his skills decide his veridict.

I made a topic about growing outposts a bit back and reading this part I thought your idea would fit perfectly into that if you would also like to post your topic there so that way the idea grows a bit more and hopefully Chris will see it and hopefully puts in a good amount of the features from the post.Enkar wrote:-Arena would have three roles:

Anyways beyond the point this seems like a well polished Idea except for maybe how the arena would be built exactly such as if it would be a pit in a building or something that looks like the roman coliseum just for a couple of levels of it working this good sir is a brilliant idea for sure though.
well, firslty, thanks for the support guys. let's hope that the topic will caught enough attention to make some ideas born into the dev's minds!
in this game, there's really two different worlds: inside your camp, where you're crafting/farming only, and there's the desert, where you can fight. When you're in your camp, you're easily get boored, put up the max speed and watch a bit of TV while you're 255hours tech skill being worked on by your medic and while your blacksmith is working on a new set of edge type 5 nodachi. Thoose arena would add a real occupation while you're in your camp, and you would probably use a lot less the speedhack (or SETA, or anything else whatever it's called) to see the fights going on, this resulting in a longer game lifetime, and a better attractivity, so as making your camp look more like a city, with it's life and it's events.
Also, this game needs some end-game expensive buildings, you quickly get a construction material storage that gets thousands in it, a tech 4 arena that cost like 5000 building material would be a neat end-game build i think.
)
For the appearence, well, i would see the first level arena kinda like a big "underground-fight-club-cage" (not under the ground, but hem... well, you probably understood) with a corridor to a house next to it. And the last tech level would look like a coliseum yes. But thoose are not really mine to decide, it's more the role of the artistic direction of the game that is doing a damn good job. I really like this kind of steampunk-samuraï universe
Again, thanks for your feedback, an again, feel free to react to anything, or even post a simple "+1 to the idea" to give a better view to the topic and more chances to reach devs
Yep! you exactly get my point, this would add a lot of possibilities, from the simple punishment like "you attacked my camp, well, now you got to fight, the ones that wins are free, the others stay here/die"; to the scaming bookmaker that put 3 ninja jounin against his best warrior to make people bet on the jounins, who are in fact holding rusted light katana against an edge type 5 weapon, and win the bets. It's a solo game so you're kinda having fun by creating your own story and your own way to do things, even if that doesen't mean anything for the AI, you're always happy to punish a cannibal that tried to take one of your men to his camp to eat some bloody steak, by taking him to your camp in a cage, to then putting him naked against you're best warrior, you know, the one with an edge type 5 ringed sabre, full plate armour but running at 80 speed with it, and 40+ attack/defensive skill... then heal him, put him in the cage again, and let him rest a bit before he's gets another round.Santaissick wrote: My retired master would work as a bouncer with couple other of my older gladiators and capture all the trouble makers and make them fight for their freedom on my arena. Yeah i kinda like the idea! i tried to focus on ideas that use actual in-game features (such as faction system for teams, consumtion system and town attractivity. In fact that woulden't need that much work, a bit of trigger here, a bit of modelisation there, and a bit of rate modifications and com texts with gladiators, but no real new feature, such as a new weapon system to program like ranged weapons) to get this idea being worked on by devs, that's also why i consider betting as not being the most important of this feature, i guess that except if bets are random, creating an AI smart enough to not bet on the one naked guy against 10 other, but dumb enough to let you win money got to take some time. but of course if they're willing to implement lions into it, i certainly won't say no! (or Komodo dragons... That would be neat!)hbrown wrote:Could also be a sort of law enforcer tool, throw a prisioner into the jail against a savage beast or other dde, having him without weapon or a mere tick, and let his skills decide his veridict.
Firstly, diden't quite understand what you asked me, you want me to copy/past the features onto your topic? yeah i'm not native, i'm a snail-eater, and snails make you kinda long to understand (okay, might be the hemp from my hemp farm that is no hempanduin_lothar1 wrote: I made a topic about growing outposts a bit back and reading this part I thought your idea would fit perfectly into that if you would also like to post your topic there so that way the idea grows a bit more and hopefully Chris will see it and hopefully puts in a good amount of the features from the post.

Yeah sorry, It was midnight when I wrote that so wasn't too focused. Anyways yes I was asking if you could post it there as it would make a bigger idea from two small ones and clear up the forum a bit to make it easier for Chris to find our ideas.Enkar wrote:Firstly, diden't quite understand what you asked me, you want me to copy/past the features onto your topic? yeah i'm not native, i'm a snail-eater, and snails make you kinda long to understand (okay, might be the hemp from my hemp farm that is no hemp )
