easy setting is rather easy to set
We have the new Sliders
You can lower the NPC group slider to make your game easier
so it already has the built in easy mode setting.
wasn't easy saying easy all those times and still fit it in easily.

Kenshi isen't difficult at all, i mean it. Dudes, there's absolutelly nothing difficult in surviving for now. You got an enemy on your ass? just run to a town! make a bit of trade to got enough money to start a town and a squad, up your techs and craft equipement while you make one of your guy run through towns to complete your squad and you're ready to enter the fight.
This game WILL become difficult when endurance, water and food consumtion, and bigger armies will start to appear, but for now, it ain't really. Of course you got to have a bit of common sense to not throw yourself against twenty bandits when you only got a rusted sword that coulden't even cut butter, but you can easily make a game and have no character that have died and forced you to re-load.

Honestly, you are totally right.Enkar wrote:Kenshi isen't difficult at all, i mean it. Dudes, there's absolutelly nothing difficult in surviving for now. Dragging this thread back to the original idea, or at least the intended one - I thought it would be handy to have an easy starting scenario for people who are looking at the demo or just got the game that would allow them to toodle around and figure things out without looking through forums or installing mods.
Easy enough to implement. Wouldn't be mandatory. Will it attract the "wrong" kind of people? Who cares - its a 1-player game.
I'm tired of the subject, so I'm out.

Wut. You started this conversation. Besides, I don't think anyone is worrying about a single-player game attracting the wrong kind of people. The only point I'm pushing is that Kenshi's current difficulty is dependent upon your starting choices (and the population modifiers, which feel more like debug/performance options), and I believe that this is a strong formula.Danzigsam wrote:Honestly, you are totally right.

Do you think a starting path easier than the Wanderer would serve to do the game justice? Perhaps, it could be scaled upwards a bit, and the Holy Sword and Wanderer paths could be intertwined for a "The Hero" type of start character. I think that would probably be the best case scenario for your current woes, if we believe people really are clamoring for an easier game. However, I would tend to believe that the difficulty of this game, mixed with all the other factors at play, creates this type of 'hero' character after a bit of hard work. It's rewarding and redeeming, and I haven't seen any games other than Mount & Blade and Dark Souls use such a tactic to great success.
So? Am I chained to it now? You want to tell people how to play the game AND how to forum post?LieutenantWolf wrote:

I'm not gonna keep saying the same thing over and over and get flogged for something I'm not even saying. I can't spell it out any clearer, and you're not reading it anyway. Done. If you need my opinion, see above. I've got bandits to kill.

If that's all you took from my post, then mehbeh it's for the best. I thought that 'Hero' idea was actually a pretty good compromise. It sticks within the boundaries of your suggestion and, without affecting the game too strongly, further eases the player into the significant starting difficulty.Danzigsam wrote:So? That's my contribution, at least. :/
Totally didn't want to get into this again, but I had an idea.
Put a time limit on the super-easy mode. Dudes die of cancer after 15(?) days. Gives you enough time to screw around and investigate and try things out, but eliminates the "easy mode" concerns.
