Creature from the Black Lagoon?

Gahd I'm so... cultured. -_-

Any races in Kenshi should use significantly less paper towel wrappings, in my opinion. :P

Lizardmen can be from any biome with a temperate, or warmer, climate, in my mind.

Then again fantasy cliche I suppose... or at least he'd consider it one. I don't particularly see it as a cliche but I suppose it has been used a little...

Lizardmen and swamp people have not been used in recent culture that I've seen.
Its all about aliens, zombies, and putting living predators inside tornadoes nowadays.

Time to bring back the fantasy cliche fad!

Yeah I can like totally see them running around in the swamps or jungles. Might not do so well in the desert. Also think a bear like race if not similar to big foot maybe for like the mountains.

You'd be surprised how many types of lizards survive especially in dry places with low humidity... it's rather impressive how diverse they are...

Anything else on anyone's mind as to an idea? I'm curious as to what others would place in this game. I'm not too sure what would work myself.

Thinking about this from a dev perspective, it would be much easier to use the pre-existing char creation screen, although modify some of the minimum/maximum values for these parameters, to create different races with subtle differences rather than having to spend the time to create unique 3D models and animations for each race.

PnzrNorm's list of Fantasy Cliche & Potential Kenshi Races:
  • Nords, Vikings, Giants (raise minimum & maximum Height and Frame values; would require longer, more impressive beards or capability for players to add beards with mods)
Dwarves, Gnomes, Halflings (lower minimum & maximum Height values, Frame can stay the same; also requires beards)
Lizardmen, Swampmen, Nekumen, Aquamen, Elemental Entities & Goatmen (Require new 3D models)

I'm just wondering IF he'll add anything new. If not then fine. Though I'm not too fond of human like races. Except dwarves but only if they have character and personality which isn't really something that would come through in a game like this.

I was just about to mention Nekuman myself actually. Because you mentioned it first, I am no longer disappoint. Also: gnomes, dwarves, and for lack of a better word, slendermen, are already part of Kenshi. True the slendermen and gnomes don't occur as much anymore, but we still get dwarves. Also: not that I dislike either, but what's the difference between halflings and gnomes?
Tolwrath wrote:What about the catgirls, or Nekuman? You know, the race that was created in 2147 when the genetic manipulation techniques of Dr. Earnst Schrodinger became publicly available through Better Living Genetics Inc. Despite being publicly available, such procedures were extremely expensive, and likely to also be passed down to descendants, meaning only those of high monetary status could afford such procedures, and would result in their line being permanently (in lieu of further gene manipulation) altered to set them apart.

This resulted in being a Nekuman basically also being a ticket to upper social status. Eventually the social status of the Nekuman balanced back own to be on level with un-altered Humans, but not before several violent riots occurred in 2159 resulting in the hospitalization of 1262 and 78 deaths. In the aftermath of these riots the Nekuman were forced to reintegrate and desegregate themselves from normal human society.

Nekuman artwork therefor came to depict many themes, where Nekuman themselves where frequently depicted as being in a regal, yet confined status. Human artwork of Nekuman varied widely, as some held the Nekuman up, while others depicted them as ravenous beasts, feasting on the hearts of lesser beings.

Of course, the social differences between Humans and Nekuman was again reset when the apocalypse came and wiped out most civilization.

Yeah... I have a problem when it comes to catgirls.

Oh and fun fact: Clint Eastwood is in the Creature From the Black Lagoon.

I do not know about dwarves and giants and half lings I mean that is going a little middle earth if you ask me. Might as well add wizards and the like then.

I was thinking more postapoc like planet if not alien. There for different races that can show a different form of evolution. There for it would make sense to atleast myself that is that each biom would have there own race. That could be recruited out of a rogue member of the race. If not be another faction you have to deal with either like the bandits (lizardmen) or like the samari like some other race.

Okay, so upon further review of the char creation screen, I have to agree that it is possible to make taller than average, and shorter than average, humans currently.
For giants, I would simply raise the minimum possible value to the midpoint of the current Height slider and raise the maximum another 20-60 units.

Dwarves exist IRL, you know. They're just height-stunted humans.
I just grouped dwarves, halflings, and gnomes together so that everyone in this discussion could see I am viewing all of them as a single race, as opposed to other games that made each of these a unique race, which I do not think will benefit Kenshi since we mostly create our own lore.
With the same logic, I grouped giants, Vikings, and Nords together.

I admit I was only thinking of cliche fantasy races at the time, and it would be really cool if there were alien races of original design.

Perhaps, there could be a race that is not bipedal (doesn't walk on only two legs).

Yes I understood what you were talking about. An some of the races of what you are talking about would be cool like maybe a pygmy race. But as for the dwarfs and all that been there done that I was hopping for something that has not been done much.

As for bipedal you mean like a centor or maybe a incest race. Though again a wolf like race the moves like a wolf but fights on 2 feet or something like that.

Exactly.
A race of werewolves would be extremely cool, but those have also been done before.
It would just be incredibly awesome to see all the possibilities of these races within the scope of Kenshi.

Some other races I thought of that aren't bipedal:
  • Ant People (Myrmidons)
    Spider People (Arachne)
Snake People (Naga, Medusa, Echidna, Lamia, etc.)

Yeah snake ppl could be cool. Though if you think about it they might be one of the races used as assassination kind of skills. Could be part of the swamp bio as well as the lizardmen. Yes I know lizardmen can be in the dessert because there is a lot of lizard like animals in the dessert but just think they would look cooler in the swamp area. You know green skin that blinds in with the back ground good at sneak attacks and ambushes only the strong survive or enter there kingdom.

I think a bear like race could be cool they can either walk on 2 or all 4 for runs. They could either be a working or fighting or even a science race. Though they might not do so well in the dessert or even the swamps.

But yeah you are getting what I am talking about. Though wolfmen would be cool. You are right done a lot though still can not get enough of them myself. But still I want odd races nothing I see a lot of any were else. You know the races you have seen on one game only but no were else sense if ever. Races that are not human in nature. Like dwarfes yes they are real but again we see those in all kinds of games and movies so they should be out of the running. Though sense they are already part of the game in the character editor Chris can go ahead and make a faction of them. Then giants yet again another thing done to death. Then you have the elfes and the like all done over and over. I want first timers or not seen often kind of races myself. Races that are not like the humans be that in looks or be that in how they move. Also not able to easily train in all skills like the humans but specific skill sets that make them better at one job but take a lot more work for another job. Though do able just instead of taking you a few hours of play time to train them up on it, it might take you a day if not a week of hard playing to get them to be able to do good at it. An if they are not a warring race you do not want them until your base is built so you have to think ahead and make sure you get the right race an not just rush out and hire who ever offers.

Another thing that would make this even sweeter is if it matters who you put in your squad they can affect your relations with other factions.

Like for instance Naga as suggested are part of the desert races. If you have them in your squad the bandits will give you a wide birth like a back ground story they think the Naga are like Gods. An the sand ninjas see them as brothers. But if you go to the swamps the Lizardmen will attack you like you are a poison. Because the Naga are a great enemy of theres. But if you have a Lizardman in your squad the Naga will attack you the sand ninjas will hate you because of there relationship with the Naga. But in the swamps you are left alone and are even welcomed to the area because of your relationship is boosted because of your lizard man. An if you have both in your squad it neither helps nor hurts you though both will fight each other in the squad and drag down your move ment until they get used to one another.

This way the races can play in your diplomatic relations with diffrunt factions out there.
