Hey to anyone who is reading this,

I was reading the road map like i do weekly(well the update page etc) and saw chris wants to make weather effects that can effect game play etc.

I though what if a town built on a river would flood at one point in the game eg all farms ruined or people killed. maybe something you can do is help them build a flood wall etc.

thought this was a cool idea but he might/ probably has come up with this already. But its a good way to drastically have weather effects

Beyond having the weather affect gameplay aspects such as character Endurance/Exhaustion (whenever hunger and thirst are implemented) or damaging buildings with inclement weather, there hasn't been that much speculation as to other weather affects.

Flooding along the river banks would make life in a lush forest (or other biome) that much more challenging, and thus more fun.

It would also be really cool, yet challenging, to implement erosion of the landscape to do things such as shifting sands, a river carving its own path through the land, or burying structures under layers of dirt and mud over extended periods of time.
This would require multiple RNGs affecting the wind and rain to accomplish, but the end result would be amazing not only for Kenshi, but for all realistic RPGs in the future. :D

most likely not until way late in development.
Do you believe the sexes should be equal?
Oh heavens no.
Then Men would become unmanageable

I doubt the landscape will be dynamic anytime soon, seeing how it's completely static right now.

You never know with the new, big, bad world map around the corner.

Not sure "around the corner" would be good term to use. The roadmap says it's being working on, but it'll be out "at some major point".

But it would be amazing to have floods... and to build walls/dams to avoid them. (:

I'm fairly confident in Chris to be able to work on small portions of the big, bad, new world map while simultaneously working to get the new pathfinding system working.
This confidence comes from personal programming knowledge and previous development experience (i.e. programmers on teams I used to work on LOVE doing several things at the same time).

Dams could be a new form of power-producing structure only able to be constructed in pre-determined locations (kinda like the plan for resources to be in fixed locations), and it would be really cool if the player could indirectly interact with dynamically flowing water through the construction of retaining walls, spillways, channel locks, or some other similar structures to re-direct the flow of water (since this is a major part of a dam's construction process).

That would be amazing i like the idea of shaping the land maybe change the course of a river even divert it to flood a town then sail a boat in and loot the houses haha dunno sounds like heaps of fun. or we could just generate some electricity from a river what ever :D

Whenever I imagine dynamic landscape and water 8 games, I always think of From Dust by ubisoft. The game came out years ago, and the thing is, that was basically the entire game, just shifting sand, changing the direction of water, and all sorts of other things.

Looking at From Dust, how much graphics demand the game had, and how the entire game was JUST the terraforming aspect, I would assume implementing this into kenshi would be incredibly demanding on Chris's part, and the player's.

Think of it. I could barely play From Dust at a steady framerate on my laptop (when that was my only pc), and once I built my rig, it was finally enjoyable because it was so much smoother. Kenshi on my rig isn't bad. The initial rendering when I load my game (with moderately high settings on my nvidia 660ti) takes a solid 30 seconds to a minute until I can even interact with my game, but after that everything is smooth (until I send my "runner" to the next town or 2 over and have to re-render once I swap my camera back to my outpost). I can see it now once dynamic landscape is included. The rendering would leave me with a still screen for *days, and then just playing would have horrendous framerate issues considering how much demand the game already has.

Would I love to see this happen? YES! This thread made me fantasize about having a trading outpost on a riverbank with "aqueducts" running throughout the entire outpost for aesthetic amazement (and maybe functionality). But thinking about the demand to come... I hang my head. My rig (although cold even with just fan power on most highest setting on games in the middle of the summer) might replace my space heater in the winter with this.

If Chris could round this out, make it happen, and still be fluid, I would be amazed, and find the only game I will be playing for years to come.
