Religions/spirituality/birthsigns?
Hello everyone, first of all thanks to the developer(s) for making the game I've always wanted, nearly the perfect game.
Second, what do people think about having different religions and birthsigns for example, which would give bonus/penalties to different stats?
The idea could be developed further if people like it
thanks for the feedback!

personally i'm not liking it.
but maybe you should go into more detail about your idea. or include examples from other games that you might have gotten the idea from.
who knows, it might be a good idea after all.

Do you believe the sexes should be equal?
Oh heavens no.

Not sure it would be worth anything. The best you could do is something adding +1/+2 to a stat here and there, but that would become obsolete after the first minute of gameplay. This game does not really have discriminate elements to a point that birthsigns and such would make any difference.
I was thinking along the lines of hidden passives + small stats bonus
for example, those born under the warrior sign could have % to hit extra bonus, or those born under the trader sign get flat % discount. We could adapt it to the different playstiles people like to have, it would be something extra. In daggerfall there were different "religions" so to speak if I remember currectly and depending on day and year you could get unique weapons, items, armors, etc.
I know there will be no magic, and personally I dont want it at all, but it would be nice if we could explore this area to add extra immersion to the game dont you think?
thanks for the feedback I wasnt expecting replies so fast! I like this community

In my opinion, I don't like the stat bonuses from following a certain alignment, or religion, but I think it would be interesting to see NPC factions that give the impression they are pious by nature.
In the future when NPCs create dynamic settlements in the landscape and start to wage war against one another, the pious factions could be at such a negative disposition with one another that their members will fight each other openly in city streets.
Perhaps it would be possible to add something akin to what I like to call 'Spheres of Influence'. Each pious faction is vying to spread their alignment/religion across the landscape, thus every other faction could have members of certain alignments/religions without being a member of the pious factions, thus retaining their normal day-to-day lifestyle. However, should the pious faction call for a holy war against another faction, all the members influenced by this alignment/religion would go on a pilgrimage to join this war (or they could just go on pilgrimages without hostile goals) thus adding more travellers for the player to join/follow/murder as well as more reasons for open conflict, either inside or outside city walls.

and we already have factions that use primarily heavy armour. they could be the basis of the conflicting factions.
add in the Bone people and you got a three way struggle.
didn't add deadcats because to me they mostly traders.

Could also have faction(s) equipped with light armour, blunt weapons or unarmed combat (when its added), and purely passive stances. Mainly inspired by Buddhist and Taoist warriors being trained in self-defense to survive while spreading their faith.Hatsune_Neko wrote:.
I like where this discussion is going! Some more characteristic like this could really add distinction to the factions and even people within factions.
As we already know there is a little bid of this in the game already (like how the holy sword start influences your relations).
Pnzr's idea especially about religion having influence in politics, would be cool to see factions dynamically declare war and even better to have reasons for conflict that actually tie into the game play and story/world.

My faction will accept all religions!
I agree having a stat bonus for your sign is like saying it actually effects you IRL. It is all a placebo, so maybe your guy would just think he had more intellect, but was basing his intellect off something non-intellectual?

'fore thee insult my TES any further, the birthsigns weren't in Skyrim.skynet464 wrote:I don't really like the idea for birth signs. Far too Skyrimesqe.
I do also think Kenshi needs religions, without it, what would factions like HOLY NATION even aspire to do?
While Spirituality seems like a very plausive thing to add, such as burials, rituals for passing, something to include in the REPUTATION system we'll get.
There could be many types of religions, remember Bauldur's gate and related games religiosities? the patrons, "Gods and Gods-father", attunement and karma, there is a list here we could study and bring for the developers.
"Even if its filled with Machine-love Techpriest machinecult toasterporn where people will speak in lingua-technis and we'll all become computers humanoid servitors and wait for the Omnissiah to judges us all for limiting our rams and not upgrading our systems"

Ok, i am going to necro this thread but:
I think being able to set your faction up as a religion/cult would be cool now.
Like start off with either an idol or a sutra, and work from there.

as far as they go to rp degree they're fine.
but hopefully nothing that 'forces' you into a specific role. religion in games is usually geared toward christianity/catholicism. and ignores other religions that are in our world.
but Kenshi isn't supposed to be earth or atleast is an alternate earth?
i don't mind religions in the sense of their things people believe and follow , an it effects how people might see you , or your actions.
but i don't think anything should give you bonuses simply because its part of your characters background/lifestyle.
becoming religious in the real world doesn't as far as i've experienced give me any kind of stat boost . so i don't think beyond perhaps Lore, and relationships it should effect much.
but as one of the people who scoured skyrim/oblivion for books to read. i'd love to have all kinds of lore in the game. telling me about the different cultures, their belief systems. the way they view birth , and birth signs. things like that.

Religions? More blood for the Blood God!! Skulls for the Skull Throne!!
And just as planned of the just as planed gazebo!!!!
I have been getting a culty feel from the game lately, so i sort of want to start an in game cult. Especially since i picked retired captain as a beginning, and the holy empire hates me.
But how would a cult beginning start? Would you have an idol that you would have to build a compound around? Is it a taboo philosophy? would you kidnap people?
I don't think that religions/birthsigns should give you combat stat boosts. But they could boost or hurt your reputation with other factions. If a faction has a favored religion and you favor that one as well they will be more welcoming. If you don't they well be less friendly.
Building alters and shrines could amplify this effect. It could also draw more visitors to you from like minded factions.
Boost personality and inter faction relations, Yes. Boost combat, No.

What about warrior spirit, the stat that is not in yet? Or is it supposed to be a skill?
There is somewhat of a religion in the game, just look at the holy sword beginning, and there are monks outfits, so i assume that there will be monasteries or what not.
This game, gives me a brian herbert's dune feel, not like his dad's arrakis, but like the prequel books that explain the origins of orange Catholics, and Zen Sunni Islam/Buddhism.
But if you are going to put religion in, then you will also have to have neck beards and fedoras. Though thanks to the internet, i do see a lot of guys with neck beards, fedoras, and katanas, so they would fit right in with kenshi....
