I like to see Sparring training.
It could work like this
1) If 1st person has higher Attack skill then 2nd persons Defense skill → then 2nd person would train Defense skill
2) If 1st person has higher Defense skill then 2nd persons Attack skill → then 2nd person would train Attack skill
3) Neither would train anything if 1st person Attack skill = 2nd persons Defense skill
The formula could be like
Training % = FirstPersonHighSkill - SecondPersonLowestSkill
(or something alike)
What do you say about this idea?

Do you believe the sexes should be equal?

If sparring were implemented I'd like to see a character's attack skill used to determine whether they can refrain from doing damage. I think that's the best way to balance it out, and it's realistic to assume that sparring with an unskilled swordsman is a good way to get cut up.
With this in mind you'd have to watch carefully, but it would offer a mechanism where a master swordsman can actually pass on their skills.
I'd like it, but again I think it would need to be well balanced and damage is a good way to do that. No autopilot and coming back to find your characters have transformed into elite soldiers -- good chance of coming back to find characters in need of medical attention or dead, instead. As it should be when playing with real swords.

Ummm... Sparring training was usually done by wooden sword, or sharp-less sword - to prevent lethal "accidents"...

So, there are clubs in the game, and TRJ quality swords. Accidents still happen even when training with wooden training swords. Take it from someone who's done martial arts weapons training and remembers the pain only too well.
If it's a blunt weapon it'll do blunt damage. So no problem there.
If it's an actual sword, it has the potential to cut the sparring partner up.
If it's just an impromptu sparring match out in the field, using normal weapons? There's a good chance someone could get hurt.
All of this is fair and easily managed by the player. Don't want your characters cut up, don't spar with things that are going to cut them up.
Of course, you're only going to skill up in katanas if you're using a katana....

And for the record, a bokken is not a total substitute for a real sword, which is why at a certain level you step up to a real sword. At the end of the day with a bokken you're still swinging around a wooden club.

Okay, last note...I would actually really like to see a bokken introduced to the game. It could operate off the katana skill and deal blunt damage, no bleeding damage, little if any cutting damage.
That's all.
That's all.

I kind of do this already with a gladiatorial arena for knocked out enemies. But would like something like this for sure, because the gladiators are trying to kill my squad after all. Where as with training a fellow squad mate they hopefully are not.
