Just like to start by saying I love the huge rusted structures that we can mine. Such an epic feel to wonder what the past civilization was like.
I was thinking that it would be cool to increase the feel of scavenging those ruins. Currently mining ruins is the same as mining ore deposits. I was thinking it would be cool if mining those rusted ruins instead gave you scrape metals that could be sold or melted down in a furnace. In addition there would be a chance to find useful parts while you are "mining" them. Like electrical components, iron plates, hydraulics, or even some robotics parts.
Would add to that feeling of salvage vs mining. Also would tie it to interaction with an outpost or civilization as you would need to sell or melt down the parts.
Especially in the western areas between the coast and the fog islands were it seems there could be a fledgling salvage society starting. Or in the south west corner where the tech hunters are. Both of those factions really intrigue me as possible start options.

Maybe some "ruins" and other abandoned sorts of areas as Nests in the game would work. I like the idea that these spaces might have inhabitants who may or may not recognize the value in the objects contained within.

I think I remember hearing something about that a while back, that it may be possible once diplomacy allows us to join the Holy Nation Outlaws, maybe.
It would be pretty rad to have an engineer crew that essentially builds fortresses for a less powerful faction, then helps hold the ramparts!
