The new disassemble feature works well.
I'm guessing that it has a formula to calculate the amount of materials returned. If so, is it possible to have that formula round up to the nearest 1. That way we would get our fabrics back for camp beds and we could reuse them like a sleeping bag.

^ Seconding this. Or at the least, make them require a camp bed item that it always gives back. Could make that a bit more expensive than just one fabric, to not totally de-incentivize the use of rented beds, etc. Or make healing somewhat slower in camp beds? (if it's not already. Haven't really noticed.)

I agree as well. I was really hoping you'd be able to get your fabric back from them. It makes no sense that you'd not be able to pick up your bed roll after use.

I like Durendal's suggestion of a new item that it would always give back. You could make that more expensive and harder to get, so that not everyone will immediately have one. But it would be good for those who can afford to get them.

yup gonna have to agree with this. After i saw that the dismantling gave back resources in the patch notes, I immediately removed the mod that makes camp beds free. only to find out in-game that it doesn't give back the fabric... So i went and installed the mod again.

But anyhoo, I like the suggestion of having to make a bedroll or sleeping bag or something, that can be used to always place down a bed. Maybe have it have a number or charges so that eventually it runs out and you have to make a new one(but it would be a lot).

In this case, it seems reasonable that you'd have to craft a sleeping bag etc, or buy one. You'd then need to actually carry it instead of just carrying fabric. Carrying camping equipment is a logistics decision after all. You couldn't/wouldn't really "craft" a bed without some tools on hand. You could lay on raw fabric I suppose, but that wouldn't be a "bed" and wouldn't involve expending a resource.

From a practical perspective(game engine), the sleeping bag you carry would be the "material" needed to "build" the camping bed. And "disassembly" should refund it entirely.

Obviously you'd just be rolling it up. For that matter, I don't think campfires should be free either. Let you scavenge some wood locally or just carry it with you. But by all means make people work for it.

If this camp bed* was just an item in your inventory (you craft at the cloth armor station, or buy in the adventurers store in town) that would solve it all. it has weight, takes up inventory space, and heals less than a real bed. but... picking it up returns a fully armed and operational sleeping bag.

*no disassembly required.

disassembling makes it too easy as the materials then restack in your inventory and take very little space / weight. but if on the other hand this item was say... 3x3 item that weighs some reasonable amount, and is non stacking, it would discourage carrying them. and they are no longer craftable in the field, so you would need to carry them if you wanted to use one. this should balance it out very well with renting beds in town.

Hmm.. would you look at that. ;)

From the 0.95.15 change notes.
-Added sleeping bags. You need to buy some of these, they can be used to create camp beds and are re-usable.
