I like the idea that bandits will take what is reasonable for THEM to take. Factors could be their carrying capacity, their current gear, and their skills and stats. If a bandit had a wakizashi and STR 2, he's unlikely to take your fragment axe that he can't put in his inventory. Yes, if you fail at robbing a Trader's Guild caravan, then expect to be royally robbed. So maybe just don't do that.
If an honor system gets put in, perhaps the more (value) you steal, the bigger the honor loss. Maybe even MORE loss for stealing EQUIPPED items. If you steal the pants out of a trader's backpack, that's one thing; it was just stock to be sold. If you steal the pants off his legs, man, that's just mean. Honor goes both ways. Why do the Hungry Bandits only take a portion of your cash and none of your gear? Because they don't need the world to come crashing down on them with hatred.
I'VE BEEN ROBBED!
Some great ideas in this thread.
What if there was a main treasury, but each unit carries their own separate cash? I hire Infinite Wingwang, so he now has 4000 lootable cats in his inventory. Would need to add unit spending behavior (bars, food, equipment upkeep, healing, toy collection, I dunno...). Also unit upkeep (monthly/annual wages drawn from treasury).
It would probably be more balanced if each unit also used banks and only kept a small portion in their pack. Otherwise it could quickly get out of hand.

You'd need the ability to have a bank system, so that before you had your own base, or if you chose not to build your own base you would still have a place you could deposit your funds. I feel like once we switch to the new map with new factions, we may indeed see some sort of banking faction similar to the Knights Templar during the crusades. Until we do, I think that distributed finances are sort of on the back burner.mastahyee wrote:Some great ideas in this thread.

Look at it this way, if there's a banking faction, you need to be able to rob the banking faction. If you can rob the banking faction, and they're in every city, you'll need a black market or outposts without ties to the banking faction to do business in a place where the bankers won't hunt you down. Even then, it will be harder to do business and set up your own bases since the bankers will hire mercenaries to attack you and take back their money, along with anything else you may have.
Until all of those dynamic possibilities are implemented, just the addition of physical cats won't offer nearly as much, so I understand if the new map takes priority over the implementation of actual piles of cash. There are already art assets in place for the coinage, which seems to indicate that in some form or fashion we'll see at least some of the things we want before the end of the year.
In Chris's podcast with JPS, he mentioned he would like to have Kenshi completed by the end of the year.Clawdius Talonious wrote:we'll see at least some of the things we want before the end of the year.
Sounds ambitious to me, but Kenshi can continue to evolve after Chris is done with it thanks to the flexibility of modding.

That is because Diablo didn't have any jewelry and gemstones as currency. So this problem can be easily solved with small rare but very precious items - like 'obscure microchip' which costs 10k, 25k and 50k for different variations.Tolwrath wrote: ↑Sun Feb 10, 2013 3:48 amActually I'm cool with money having weight on a character, I just don't want to see it suck up inventory space.
PS: Seriously, in Diablo, Writ has items for sale that you cannot physically afford even if you use the hack that lets you put money in ALL your equipment slots as well as your inventory slots. I mean having to drop that much of your inventory space just to hold onto your money is really crippling.
I think that money being an ingame object, having weight and taking up space in inventory is a tremendous idea, as well as enemies looting your squad for valuables. It would add to meaningful gameplay.
As for banking system, I think banks can be factional. Right now you can assume, that there is some global invisible bank, which works for free and lets you buy stuff anywhere in the world without any risk of loosing your money if you get beaten up. If you have money as ingame object and factional banks, you can extract currency (with daily limit and fee of course) and use your account only with traders which also use this factional bank.
For example you deposit 10k into Shek factional bank, you can buy anything you like up to 10k minus bank's fee at any trader in Shek cities. If your reputation with Shek Kingdom gets low, they will confiscate all money from your account - fair enough.
Im not sure i wanna loot some1s bloodstained clothes. :p (wait to much realisme)
I did steal dead peoples stuff.
Yeah i do this all the time when i see dead people taking off there pants and wear it. :p
So yes it would be "nice" if certain* enemies would loot better equipment then what they are wearing. How many times have i chased those slave traders to get my swords back
Eventually it doesnt matter since ull have a stockpile of everything anyways.
*mainly bandits/raiders but i guess the more established factions could do with fancy new swords aswell
Then since most people started talking bout physical money i think thats a terrible idea. It requires to much micromanagement for me.
Atm i have like a squad of 120 people so if i have to provide em with each there own cash pile. its allready terrible with food for long hikes so if then i have to micromanage cash aswell "yawn".
But for looting sakes u could do it take base value of what the char is carrying then they loot ?? % in cash.
Honestly i havent bought anything in a long time (sometimes a bit of food if its a long hike) mainly becos everything i make is better then what i can buy. So money has little value and i rarely trade. Cos theres honestly nothing that i need. so micromanaging something i dont really need seems such a waste of time :p
But i guess it comes down on how big the squad limit will be on release. As in its ok to micromanage 4-10 guys money but when u go to 20-?? its just gonna be a pain

I could see an extra perma slot for money that you can at most carry 5k cats on. Any more cats and you have to store them in your normal inventory. To get around loads of money idea:
- You could have a bank for each faction.
--- To get around factions you have your own personal storage in your outpost/house that stores infinite cats.
----You can spend the 5000 cats that you have on hand, and you write a IOU that the salesman takes.
------ Later on a collector comes to your outpost and collects the other 12000 cash you owe him for that edge 1 weapon you bought + collector's fee (depending on how far they walked).
---------Obviously you can kill him/knock him out, but another will be sent. After 3 tries comes the bounty hunters. After bounty hunters comes an actual platoon depending on the severity of cost. Pay your debts or be beaten up and thrown in jail/sold into slavery.
---- The system also works for you. You can sell items, and if you don't want to carry money back to settlement the salesman will sent a collector to deposit into your account, - collector's traveling fee.
----- You can sell to a salesman that has a negative balance items that are normally sold by them (so you can sell armor to an armorsmith even when he has no money, but you cant sell him swords). He will pay you back once he 'sells' the equipment you sold him at the negative balance.
- Just for shits and giggles, you can build that tier 2 house (the square one), except it's a new building type called the treasure house. If fills up/depletes as your cats go. Just an aesthetic house for your feelings.
Onto money and getting robbed in general. Everyone that gets knocked out loses all the money they had on them at the time. The other equipment can get stolen as everyone else has said.
