I'm not sure how popular the sieging mechanics idea is over here for Kenshi because i only god the game a month ago (and having TONS of fun with it. Hell the only game i have played this much is Skyrim which should say something)
I know that you guys already confirmed tht you are not going to add siege engines. This is not why i made this post.
I just wanna ramble about some ideas here that may sound interesting for some people here.
I don't know if some of you ever played the viking expantion for mount and blade warband but i Always found their way of dealing with sieges interesting. Ofocurse it's still too complex to implent all those features in Kenshi. Perhaps we could implement some basic armies of let's say 50 people that are only there to surround a city and making them wait outside until that sieging force is either attacked or the city will starve. If the latter happened there could be two things happening. A: The guards from that city would storm out to attack the besieging force or B: they will surrender.
For a system like this to work the whole guard system has to be changed to make it work. Because the guards are not allowed to rush forward to attack anyone that even moves close to that gate anymore. Instead whenever a force is above a certain count they will automatically lock all the gates and start to man any remaining turrets in the area. If these are not present they will simply wait behind the gate until the relieve force has arrived or situation A or B will happen.
Perhaps we culd even have a way t actually climb over the wlls to take one of the gates and so letting the besiegers in. Or hell why not just go to the food storage and either nab everything in sight or torch the building letting the city starve.
the infiltration part could even be a special mission they send to you once you have a certain relationrank with the besieged faction, allowing you to safe the city and gaining even more relation or special rewards.
This is obviously way too complex to add to the game but it's good food for thought in my opinion.
