I realize this is a bit of a fluff suggestion, but I can't help thinking it fits the setting and gameplay rather well.
Add playable musical instruments and associated skills. Playing an instrument in a public space (busking) generates a very slow supply of cats. On the other hand, listening to music provides some very small positive effect, perhaps increasing skill gain rate very slightly.
The end result is that low-level characters can dig their way out of poverty (if they have good enough skill; a one-rank PC will starve if they're just busking), and towns and such will have interesting characters sitting around being killable, thieve-from-able, recruitable, and vaguely useful. Presumably there's a limit to how much busking you can do in a town before locals run out of spare change and patience, and after a while you have to move on, so even skilled musicians have to be migrants.
And it would make for an interesting addition to the soundscape, suggesting that the characters do more than sit in bars and stare at the desert when they aren't killing each other. Plus the potential fun of starting the game out as a band of barely-decent musicians with no combat ability trying to survive.
Instruments and music
Brilliant suggestion, I would love to see this in the game.
Would be even better if this activity would also slowly increase your dexterity stat, perhaps dependant on the kind of instrument used, maybe have tiers of instruments for stat and money gained.
Maybe also have instruments that are actually hidden weapons or have concealed weapons in them?

Yeah definitely a fluff suggestion. Another system to write and debug... should definitely wait til after the game is officially released IMO - assuming they decide to take it up at all.
But that would be a cool atmospheric enhancement - people playing in bars, or occasionally outdoors (in daytime only). But I don't think it should make the player any money or serve any purpose than "because I can" for the player to play music. And maybe it is a crime to play it outside a building at night LOL - noise disturbance.
You would probably have different sorts of music in different areas as they have different cultures. Both different instruments and songs. I could imagine NPCs playing songs asking for donations (but you can ignore them). Playing the wrong thing could be another reason for the Holy Nation to harass you over. And I could see Cannibals making the most disturbing "instruments" ever, but you'd probably never catch them playing music unless you're sneaking through.
At the very least it is nice to think about.

Yeah, cannibals would probably be "bone-based" if you know what i mean. The noise disturbance thing would work really well with the "city curfew" idea i mentioned in the "features" section.bk3000 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 06, 2018 7:05 amYeah definitely a fluff suggestion.
