Yes, auto comes from automobile and Germans use auto as well. Word auto is very often used as example when talking about this kind of things, partly because it is word that can be understood pretty well in many languages, I think.

There are genders in many languages. French use feminine and masculine and Germans add neurtal version. And there are articles like "a" and "the" in English as well. But there are no articles or genders in Finnish. Instead, pronouns affect the conjugation of words.

auto, autoni - car, my car

autot, autojeni - cars, my cars's

autona, autonani - as a car, as my car

Also, what xyster said is right. This is elephants exploding diarrhea. We are way off topic

"A" and "the" are genders? Hmm, I need to study my own language more.

I didn't mean they are genders. They are articles. Little "words" in front of "real" words. In English those articles, a and the, are indefinite article and definite article. It gives, for example, information about do we know the object or is it something new.

In French there are, for example, "un", "une", "la", "le" and "les". (It's been long time since I studied French and I wasn't good in it, so I might make mistakes. Also, there are more articles but those were the ones I remember.) They give same information than "a" and "the" in English (definite and indefinite), but they also tell us gender of the object we are talking about. In French every substantive has gender.

Sorry for my English, and I'm not a damn language teacher so I really know nothing  Please, correct my mistakes. Also, there are no articles in Finnish so I'm really the last person to talk about them.

The purpose would be to add a bit of depth into the cities and bring more character to it. They may alter your stats in some way or another if you interact with them. There is no point to a Starbucks in a mall, but people seem to enjoy visiting and spending all their money there regardless. Same goes for a prostitute and their prostitution house... except they don't sell cheap arse coffee :D

Except that coffee is a product that people buy for a reason. In-game prostitution doesn't do anything. And if it did I find that really unrealistic. Stat buff...why? Stat negative....no point.

Also, there are loads of things that could add flavour to the town without having to resort to having prostitutes. The reason you have suggested this brings me back to my first point. It is pretty much a 'hey look at this, we are totally out there and wild with prostitutes'. I think it still feels like a cheap gimmick.

Except that prostitution has and still does exist in real life all over the world. Apparently it does serve some sort of purpose, as does coffee, or it wouldn't be so widely rampant in many parts of the world. Even if that purpose is a risque or negative purpose, it does. In-game, it may serve as a way to temporarily alter mood or morale (if any are introduced into the game). In any case, coffee may serve a purpose for the nervous system as a stimulus, but prostitution serves a different purpose to some people as well. It would not be entirely correct to say that prostitution would serve no purpose or has no value other than being gimmicky in a game. If anything, for some players (and possibly random npc AI), their gold would get spent and re-circulated back into the cities economy.

I agree thought that it would possibly appear as a novelty and that there may be other avenues of interest to create some depth. However, I mention prostitutes as an addition to any other elements added into a city not to be overlooked. In MANY great games, there are always oddities that stand out and make the game even more great by simply adding in small details. Just because one person see's no point in something, doesn't mean there isn't or can't be.

Hopefully, in addition to possibly other npc's and things going on in a city, this would fit right in.

Just as a side note: I do not condone prostitution or have never used prostitution in real life. Nor have I ever been a prostitute myself. My views and opinions do not reflect on those that are prostitutes. :)

My theory is that gimmicks are fun if used in a constructive way. Especially in the video game field. With controversy comes curiosity! I see your point, but we can't have uncheesy games, now, can we?

Only if there are male prostitutes...

Lets not be gender exclusive here. :)

I know that I'm raping the whole topic here again but I just found something that is too funny (at least I find it funny even tough everyone else disagrees) to keep secret. Here is supposed to be every version of the word "shop - kauppa." After you learn this, you can say you can speak Finnish: http://www.ling.helsinki.fi/~fkarlsso/genkau2.html

PS. I think prostitutes and such can add fun little details to game. But the problem is that implementing them is really hard. It is hard to make them look that they are not just cheap tricks to make the game look more "mature" or "hardcore" or something.

Haha, that is insane. Obviously not all of those would see everyday use. but that is a damn lot of words/grammar endings.

Yeah, it would be a bit of a challenge, but it is just an idea. I doubt that the dev would have time to even give it a shot, or if he's even interested, since he has all kinds of other things that are more important to do with the gameplay, economy, already announced features and all the bugs.

Btw, that link is devastating! My finger got tired of scrolling.

Hey in guild renaissance I operated a bar and a prostitution ring, life was good. :D Never was able to purchase that pleasure palace though (highest estate in the game)

Just look at the cover of the game.
