How about hungry bandits, holy nation outlaws and other starving outcasts give you a "your food or your life option" instead of just attacking you unprovoked. Similar to how holy nation Paladins question your faith and leaves you alone as long as you give them a satisfying answer.

Different factions would approach this their own fashion. Holy nation outlaws would be more pleading and placated by a small amount food and give a faction boost if you give them extra. Hungry bandits would be more threatening and demand you hand over ALL your food in your inventory and attack you if it is too small of an amount.

For your outposts you would be able to build a free food crate and hungry outlaw roamers coming through your town would head straight for it, take one food item and not bother you, provided you keep it full.

this would be so much more preferred over the usual way of knocking them out putting food in their inventory and healing them. I'm at war with the holy nation and allying my self with the rebels with this would be awesome.

Scenario with bandits demand diffirent things is planned. I'd actually like to make friends with all hungry dudes, with no bloodshed, like "hell, ya need food? grab as much as you can eat, we got plenty! wanna join? nah? why? fine, take care!"

I was actually just in here to suggest a very similar idea. I was thinking of an "Offer" option added to the right-click menu, and then the player can select what they want to offer from their inventory. The target either accepts or refuses, and probably most things would be refused other than food or weapons and armour, unless it's valuable.

This would also help when we're escaping with allies, where currently if we want to give a weapon to the ally we have to drop it and hope they run and pick it up. That can get messy if we're being pursued.

"Offer" would be a good alternative to "Trade" for dealing with NPC's.

Why to add any more options, when feature is executable via existing trade mechanics?

Existing trade mechanics? I haven't seen an existing mechanic by which Trade can work with an NPC other than a shopkeeper, and then it's forced on the NPC. I think the NPC should have the ability to refuse, and Hungry Bandits might be more inclined to just kill you and take all your food instead of just accepting your charity.

It makes the game more brutal, which I believe makes the game better.

I would groan at a system where we open up trade with hungry bandits just like shopkeepers, give them some greenfruit, and then not have to worry about them at all. I'd rather the tense exchange of offering something and then waiting in anticipation as the bandit approaches to see if they're going to accept the offering or attempt to hack my head off.

Yes, existing trade mechanics, just like with your squadmates. Scenario:

hungry bandit: Oi mate, givas sum food or we'll killyaaal!
you: ooooh, angry killa, dont kiiill mee pleeease...
hb: ar ya mocking at meh?!
you: not at all, here some food!

*now you can RMB on leader and trade with him, just like you do with your squadmates. You put as much food or goods as you want, into his inventory, then close the menu. Now fellow considering your offer, and there're, say, two possible outcomes*

hb likes the offer: oi, dot's a spirit, take care, mate! *bandits leave, relationship raises*
hb dislikes the offer: dat's all?! WAAAGH! *bandits die, relationship drops*

My assumption is based on the fact that NPCs are able to determine if something not belonging to them have been put into their inventory. I guess they could also determine if it's enough or not.

What i initially meant is that i don't want Kenshi to become Wurm, where you can perform roughly 10-20 actions with a single object, and every action is stated in the RMB-rolldown menu. Kenshi's "primitives" are working just fine.

So you rely on having the option to engage a dialogue to do it. That won't work in all cases, and never for animals.

I want to just be able to hold out an item for someone or something to take.
