More Dangers! More Daring!

Have you seen those plums of red gas that pop up randomly from time to time in the desert? Is it possible to make them do damage? Just saying I already avoid them just in case, but it would be neat to have some environmental threats. Like burning steam clouds in the desert, aggressive plants in the swamps, sand creatures that pop out of hiding with no warning. Stuff that needs to be quickly avoided or killed. I know that poison gas was thought of for the fog lands. (or so I heard) But having areas in the swamps or other places that suddenly become gas filled because someone came to close to a bulging plant and you need to get out or put on a gas mask would be and interesting new obstacle.
