It'd function similarly to limb loss, where a face going sufficiently negative to kill (but only from a hit, not wounds) would cause the effect. Maybe even split characters in half under the same conditions to chest / stomach.

You could also add it as an action on corpses. I don't want to haul a dead body back for a bounty, just let me cut his head off and throw it in my backpack with all the other junk

Considerations: decapitation would be too extreme, it puts characters in a spot where they virtually can't recover from damage, deafeating the whole purpose of unconsciousness and playing dead. The fact that attacks prioritize already damaged areas doesn't help too, if the head is the first part that gets hit, you can pretty much give up on that fight because the chances you'll lose the head are insanely high if you don't kill your opponents quick enough.

Conclusions: love it. Where do I sign the petition? But seriously, with the right balance I don't see why this can't be a thing, adjusting the percentages on already damaged areas could help lowering decapitation chances, it may already be this way but an attack that would hit the head should have a higher chance to be parried/dodged, as most living creatures put much more effort in protecting the head, it's not a matter of combat skill, it is just instinct, you would protect the head with your naked arms if needed. Also, only a cut hit should be able to chop heads off.

Enough blatering, dunno about splitting in half atm but decapitation definitely yes. If you could also collect heads for bounties or whatever other miniquest, would even be cooler.

Sorry I didn't explain this well enough, but I meant only when a hit takes your head below the kill threshold. So they'd already be dead before they hit the ground, no recovery is possible. Might as well be awesome in that case!

Head hit chances are already low. And if you're wearing a solid coverage helmet it's pretty much impossible to get decapitated unless you purposefully get back up from KO to keep fighting enemies way beyond your means. You'd need to take hits of 75+ otherwise.

Hit chances are weighted random. For example the left arm is far easier to hit than the right. This is basically the game's representation of your point about the natural protection instinct. There is no system to prefer targeting wounded areas. Further, there are very few attacks that hit a specific area - some running attacks target the legs, for instance.

Regarding bounties, they need to be alive ATM to turn in. I like that it adds another layer beyond usual combat by needing to keep your target breathing and actually carry the person to the police. Maybe half price for a dead bounty? Bag up the heads and get them in bulk!

Well, this proves that I'm not a very functional living creature, I was considering the head just a limb and not a vital part there xd

Yeah that was the one disappointed thing about the gore update, no decapitation and no cutting people in half. I assumed it was because of some technical limitation because right now it feels like 3 out of the 7 possible ways to "cut off" a body part are just not used. I was expecting decapitation for when you die by loss of head hit points, get your upper body separated from your lower body for when you die by loss of chest hit points, and finally guts spilling out for when you die by loss of stomach hit points. With maybe a random roll or some hit/damage threshold to trigger this kind of extra gory death so you don't see it every single time thus keeping it a little bit more special.

I grew up with way to many awesome gory games, games these days can be such a let down sometimes. XD
