I was thinking today about a different way to handle dismissed characters. Currently they just wander around the map or head back to a certain location. Which makes sense. But I was thinking there could be more too it.
I would like to make it so when you dismiss a character if you do it at a bar or similar location and pay them "their share" of the community gold. They would hang out at that location. Then they would rejoin you later if you asked them at no charge.
What I looking for is the ability to have smaller groups but be able to "rehire" ones that I leave behind when I need them. This would work for times when I have non human characters that I don't want to take into HN lands. or perhaps rescued slaves that I might want to get to freedom and then come back to at a later time and have them join me.
The main thing is that I could take them someplace and they would stay there so I could find them later. And that they would remain friendly to me. This could reduce the size of squads as I could pick up a few extra characters for a specific mission and then drop them off after. More like hirelings.
It could also make sense out of the freed slaves that are running all over the desert with no direction.
The buddy system.
That sounds interesting and useful.
Maybe it can be implemented via a modified slave/animal trader, have a special merchant like this sitting at a table in every city's bar drinking or playing cards or whatever. When you talk to him you can "sell" your teammates to him for some amount that represents beer and snack money, who will join him at the table. Then at any time later you can go back to him and buy your friends back, either for free or with the same fee as getting a new person.
For extra convenience, maybe make the merchant's inventory global, so you can drop off your guys anywhere and be able to get them back from anywhere. After all, it's not like they don't have lives of their own, you just happen to run into them whenever its convenient for you, what luck.

I don't get the utility. Don't want to take certain characters to HN lands? Leave them at home aka just don't bring them. No need to dismiss them from your faction.swillo wrote: ↑Sun Jul 15, 2018 5:20 pmI was thinking today about a different way to handle dismissed characters. Or perhaps are you actually playing with the 30 character cap? I can't image actually doing that. But if so, maybe you're looking for an artificial way to get past it via part-timers.

It would be a good solution for us poor sods that don't have the hardware capacity to have more than 30 people in total though. Tbh i find 15 people aready way too much to handle tbh (well, with the current AI system that is...)bk3000 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 16, 2018 10:26 pmI don't get the utility. ...and so my legacy continues...
Actually most my games are in the 200 range. but I keep trying to find ways not to hire or free everyone I meet.
I thought this would be a more interesting way to make friends and not have them in the party full time. It's totally doable now except for the fact that they wander away to random places and ex-slaves despawn. So you can never find them.
