There is a mod called "craft your own research + ancients".
Basically it lets you craft books, ancient science books, engineering books and ai cores.

Compared to the price of buying the books, or the science books, it's very inefficient to make them yourself, and it's a horrendous way to make money, and far less efficient compared to finding them or buying them at black desert city, terrible infact, but at least it gives you the option to discover the knowledge, instead of it being bought or handed to you by the ruins.

I at least find that meaningful.

Isn't that what kenshi is about? having any option you want and choosing your path? I like being a scientific researcher.
