Yes this is the main thing that makes city life unsustainable. You can trade for water at the shops, but it requires a lot of micro management. If not a town well, then a well that we can build inside would suffice.

Also, for immersion Even the poorest city of antiquity had public source of water, is one of the reasons that people settles in one place. Water for beasts, for travellers, etc.

In a desert survival situation water comes second after shade.

Still important though..
