Enhanced Character Creation
I know that a big part of the current system is that anyone can be anything with sufficient effort, however I have an idea for making characters feel more "special" and unique whilst still adhering to this ethos. As basically an extention of the racial modifiers (e.g., Shek have a 20% bonus to attack, but a 20% mallus to dodge, etc), each character in game could gen with some variance to the rate at which they gain attributes. For instance, you might encounter a drifter with a 10% preponderance towards dexterity, but a -20% towards stealth. If you recruit him, this would then encourage you to specialize him in cutting weapons but not as a scout. Of course, just like with racial modifiers, this doesn't mean you couldn't force his way into becoming an elite scout, just the same as the current system doesn't stop you from turning Beep into a whirling dervish of bladed death. For the initial PC, I would suggest offering either to keep it as is (no modifications)--otherwise you'd just min-max them into whatever traits you didn't want--or allowing a "randomization" of trait preferences to be rolled in char-gen.
