One thing I personally think about, regarding item handling in the unreal engine is how much clutter can be "saved" lying around without despawning? The current engine seems to handle large inventories quite well, you can place a lot of things in stores or at ruins just lying at the ground without disappearing. And even the amount of inventory spaces like chests and barrels does not seem to affect system stability. I have seen in games like fallout 3 the item handling is excellent, where as in fallout 4 the graphics is better but item handling is not as easy to work with, they can not be moved around as easily and have a tendency to disappear to save system memory. Micro management with items and inventory tetris is a big part of what makes Kenshi unique. I have too limited experience with Unreal to see if this is going to be a problem. So it is as much a question if the level of detail regarding item and inventory will remain even with the new engine, as a plea that it should.

Maybe this topic is old news, but I thought about more survival aspects, like hygiene and a more complex need system. Bites by monsters maybe makes the wound infected, clothes and armor could be "cleaned" from blood or if the person wearing it was sick the "germs" would affect the new wearer if not boiled or else washed. This would make a new category of jobs, sanitary tasks. Maybe clothes become dirty over time. Different food could also harbor a plehtora of problems. This field is big and could really make the game fiddly if implemented the wrong way.

Different sizes on clothes and armor would balance the economy. You would no longer be able to loot others and get "powerful". Maybe a scaling factor on sizes with perfect fit grading big or small with increasing penalties on movement and such until the size is simply impossible to wear. Maybe race specific armor atop of sizes. The best armor are made by your own, even at a low level the armor is good or better than looted ones because of the size debuff. Maybe armor could be ordered and made by skilled armorsmiths in cities, maybe looted armor could be resized if the smiths skill is high enough.
