I have played Kenshi a few times, and from what I remember, after I am a walking fighting powerhouse, the game has 0 challenge. I will post the steam discussion thread which sums up what is wrong with Kenshi. It is very insightful and I believe this is the main problem I have.
" Does the game kinda winds down after you've become powerful?
Nothing could stop you, not Cat-Lon or the Leviathan, you're so powerful with all the gears and many members that your base is always safe. Invasion always gets repelled, the world is safe to roam.
So now the world has smaller challenge, and the most longest part is the walking/running from A-B

like any game it winds down when you got near perfect everything.
though the Leviathans can still one stomp kill you. there is no getting around that. or any NPC character with stats in the 100's

For most of my saves, yeah I lose interest once I'm capable of handling myself against most foes.
But on my main save, I simply set myself new goals that weren't combat related. I'm a collector, and have spent many hours hunting down new items to add to my collections.
A person could also grab mods to make the game harder. There are some out there that keep the challenge up even up to 100 stats.

One can easily circumvent this issue by posing restrictions/limits/conditions for the playthrough.
F.e. only being allowed to recruit another member when the initial character hit a certain level in certain stats/skills
Or prevent yourself from using specific mechanics (like stealing and especially stealing is busted but that's fine ^^) to make the route more challenging
etc

Been thinking about this I really want to beat the game this time and see everything but be challenged extremely at endgame. Maybe take out all major factions (yes Sheks too lol) to make world really unsafe once at least one self sustaining outpost city is built.

Sounds like a good idea to push through, collect artefacts and expand base.
Maybe I'll make a robot salve labour hmmm.....

Robotic speed legs solves the running from A to B issue elegant.
Else I agree with you but this is true with most open ended games.

Another good remedy is to play with as few people as possible, that way it takes longer to get to that point. I suffer from the same issue

Disband everyone, and recruit people to start anew. You might see your old people again.

Just install Legendary Kenshi mod and cry
Legendary of Kenshi - World of Unique
A Workshop Item for Kenshi
By: Johnson
What does this mod do? This mod is for people whose vanilla Kenshi has become too easy. This mod increases Kenshi's difficulty. It reinforces the stats of the factions and makes them use better armor and weapons.

I use this with my own tweaks to the mod file, as well as other mods, because I found even just approaching mid-game I had waaaay too much money from my overly aggressive looting and basically bleeding all the merchants dry, and it wasn't a struggle = fun anymore.
This is certainly not for everyone, read the description. Do not misunderstand, I personally would not describe any part of Kenshi using the word "cheese mechanic"...
Enhanced Survival Challenged 2.5 (increased difficulty)
A Workshop Item for Kenshi
By: DreadLordNaf
This mod aims to remove the cheese wealth mechanics that make Kenshi too easy, and make your struggling, suffering and overall challenge in Kenshi greater. If you like it leave a thumbs up.

why I wish there was more of an economy and faction relationship and if you controlled a town it revolted.

Imo yes, kenshi loses out on fun once you become strong (the closer to 100 the more so) and all you can do is add new rules to stop yourself from beeing too strong too soon.
I think i have taken most options besides solo runs.
No/as little as possible stealing/assassimation and no prisoner training are already normal for me. I never was into crossbow kiting (besides leviathans), else that would be on the list. Often no provoking to lose limbs, only "natural" occurances.
Stuff like no turning down recruits+ must use staffs. X free characters, for each after you must also recruit a goat (goat dead= passive until replaced). No crossbows. All crossbows. Beastmaster, 1-2 humanoids, rest animals. No recruiting, only volunteer joining. No heavy armor. Full nomad, no crafting, no base. Kill all major factions. Ally with all major faction.
And so on. Plenty of runs ended somewhere after the initial struggle.

Yeah, I always end up restarting once I get strong. I try to draw it out by setting rules for myself and making it harder to acquire things, but at the same time I have to be making some kind of progress to keep interest, so eventually I get the skills/items to trivialise most encounters.
I guess ideally there would be more ways to lose things over time, even at the end. Kind of like when you first start playing and get some gear off dead guys but then get enslaved and they take it off you and you have to break out and start over. Or you recruit someone and they get killed. But as your characters get better and you also get better at playing, you lose less and less and those recovery periods go away.

If you want a larger challenge try Novice Bounty Hunter from Project Kothun (Mod) it's the Star Wars mod.
That Mod is way harder than normal kenshi almost all enemies have super powerful blasters that can nuke your bodyparts, All the legendary enemies have huge resistance to it and Jedi / Sith are strong vs ranged with gapclosers built into moveset.
The Torso start in that mod would also be fun, It adds tons of new buildings and research aswell.

There it is. This is why Kenshi is not replayable as a game to the maximum that you want.
The issue with Kenshi. And I don't know how to fix it!

i think that goes for any game really. it eventually becomes not playable any more because you done everything it has several times.
replayability eventually dies.
goddess knows i have played games for ever and then some.
Second life, about 45,000 hours
Stellaris, 7,100 hours
7 Days to Die, 4,200 hours
Kenshi, 3,500 hours
EU 4, 2,300 hours
Space engineers 2,300 hours
and the list goes on.
eventually ill tire of my most favorite games, except for SL, think ill be playing that until it goes under.
also replayability depends on the player too. so i don't really think its a definitive list. though I'm sure it fits you perfectly.
nicely done though.

I guess your right about that. And therefore, the number 1 way a best possible game gets made is by making it endless fun with new ways to play from 10 ways -> to infinity. The better the sandbox, the more ways to play it. And I really impressed with Kenshi and am looking forward to Kenshi 2.
Thank you Chris Hunt for the game.
