I think it would be really cool (and I have some trouble with the controls, sorry!) if there were alternate options for camera viewpoints.

I figure you could always have the squad based one as default, but maybe add some others.

Like: If you want to control a character you can, as in, actually have the camera following (kind of like the WoW way) while you control the one person in battle with options for followers that let you control them to a lesser degree. A kind of over the shoulder-view while controlling the character I think would be a cool feature.

Or if there were a First-Person option, again balanced by limiting controls over larger groups, but allowing for easier solo control, while giving the option of another rpg element, ie. controlling and actually playing uniquely as a character.

Anyone?

Use Mouse-Wheel to scroll to different viewpoints, Right-Click on a character portrait to follow that specific character. As it stands there is no first-person view in the game.

In regards to the second part of your post, why would you want to manually control one single character? The automated combat is most likely the best way to go about the massive squad based game Kenshi aspires to be.

I know somewhere in the past that first person has been suggested and discussed. I don't recall chris' opinion on the matter but the general group at the time thought it was a pretty stupid idea because kenshi isn't really that kind of game. It isn't mount and blade, it isn't dynasty warriors and it isn't WoW.

In the end it would require a huge redesign of the game to enable this and there really isn't anything you could do in that view since you can't control the attacks of your character. I'd say it just really isn't feasible in the SLIGHTEST in this game.

First-person view in a squad-based game? Probably not, as it would serve little purpose. You can't control a single character's attacks or movement like that, so it wouldn't blend well with the game's design. If you could, sure (like Dungeon Keeper 2), though I don't see that making it into the primary release.

Can't have a posession spell if there's no magic now, can we? :P

I really do like the Idea of manually controlling one character. The other sqaud members could follow him (this could be enabled and disabled by commands) and it would making playing solo, or simply travelling through the desert much more enjoyable in my opinion. It would be cool if you could like direct control this character then, by using arrow key or such. I would really like to see this implemented as an additional play style, its not a game changer as much as it is just a really nice and handy feature to have.
Greta suggestion in my opinion.
