While playing this game it seems very reminiscent of other mass units tactical battle games like the Total War series. I think it would be very fitting that there is a bonus to charging into battle and would inflict greater damage on the first strike (if it lands a hit), things like that. On the other hand, have a defensive stance that might be able to protect against these charges.
Certain weapons may be more effective than others at charging/defending, as well as certain formations (to go along with MrSpike's formation suggestions at viewtopic.php?f=16&t=1679).
Along with that, have some neat looking charge-attack animations for viewing pleasure.
Charge attacks and defensive stances
There is a defensive stance already in-game.
Although I might add that a 'charge bonus' from total war is derived from the mass of bodies and tactical effect of a massed charge. A single dude charging is very easy to counter and is more likely to inflict a negative to attack unless it is a surprise attack or there is some sort of fear involved.

Yeah, when I wrote this I wasn't imagining a single guy alone getting a charge bonus, but an entire group.
You're right about the defensive stance already being in; totally forgot about that for some reason.

A charge bonus would be cool to see later on down the road, when battles get larger, especially if anything resembling a mount/vehicle system ever gets put in. There is a defensive stance, yes, but it could be a bit different in response to a charge, like if you put up a spear wall or something like that. Still, that would be best in response to a mounted charge, and... I forget, but mounts aren't really in the plans at all are they?

Nope. And spears are unlikely too...

no spears?
why not this isn't purely japanesse and even then there were people with spears and there will be trees and other stuff later on to get the wood needed for spears.
a spear is a weapon that any could use effectivly since all you have to do is poke them with the pointy end.
for example if you have two sperate groups of recruits and you give one group swords and the other group spears and just tell them to charge eachother who will win? the people with spears will have a starting advantage cause they have the weapon with longer reach, they would also get a charge advantage since their spears would hit first. the only problem is that spears are useless in close range and even then the people with spears would hopefully still have an advantage against thier oppents who could be wounded and disorganised from the charge

Exacly, but spears are better used to take out calvary. BUT they may be used if like you make small holes in a gate of your town and kill your enemy with your spears sticking out of them, or when the enemy is charging you can have spears take out some guys then send your swordsman in.

The problem is not that Chris wont have spears in the game. The problem is he doesn't have any animations for it. Just like dual wielding he cannot find animations for it, for some reason and therefore it wont be a part of the gamewolfwood296 wrote:no spears?
