[idea] European and middle eastern weapons and armor

My idea is that there should be more variety in the weapon and armor, like European swords and plate armor also Middle eastern scimitars. i know plate armor wouldn't be the best in the desert but it would still be cool, maybe a Japanese/European armor combo or something.

I think the game shouldn't feature stuff like that, since it wouldn't fit in at all. I mean in the middle of a desert, suddenly 5 knights running around with plate armor and big 2 handed swords? I'm sorry but it doesn't fit in the world I think Kenshi is. I on the other hand think that the orient theme weapons and stuff like that really makes the game unique because there is alot of post apocalyptic / desert games out there (fallout, rage and a bunch more) but they all focus on guns and not so much on melee combat. I really like the idea of a "scrap samurai" using weapons and armor created by whatever metal was avaible.

I don't really have an opinion about the armors but making the armors, thinking about 'do they fit in with dessert' is very wrong. There will be plenty of other biomes (rain forest, coast?) than dessert. There will be more vegetation. They haven't just been implemented yet.

Ah sorry then, my mistake!
Anyways I think it would sort of break the orient theme that Chris has chosen

Western swords aren't counted out just yet. I remember Chris saying that he's considering of adding broadswords and maybe other European weapons.
I couldn't find the post though so I can't say for sure.

so i had a random idea regarding plate armor maybe it could incorporate robotics maybe working as a super expensive life support system after a character is to damaged to continue. you put the character on a table and if you have alot of building material you can bring him back robo-cop style. the character would be slow but have alot of strength and more protection. im only half serious about this but it would be interesting

I'm not sure about the whole WH 40k style Dreadnought / Robocop thing. But I do like the idea of some flavor of powered armor, if the technology for fully functioning limb replacements existed before the end of the war, it seems like powered exoskeletons wouldn't be entirely out of the picture. We have examples of the precursors to those technologies already. While I wouldn't want anything quite like Fallout power armor, something that combined the functionality of a stillsuit (in the event that water requirements were implemented), armor plating and carried its own weight could be quite interesting. After proper research and facilities were manufactured, the creation and repair of such suits of armor could be quite interesting. It would also enable alternative uses for the robotics parts supplies besides simply replacing limbs and possibly upgrading facilities to require less manpower.

Guys, having a big heavy suit of armor is not very practical at all. Sure for cambat it might be neat as you can't really be harmed, but you wont be able to travel at all. Running through dessert, forest and other harsh terrain. Also I think that is kinda too high tech, like really? A bio-suit, something we cannot even create today. The idea is interesting, but I know it will never be implemented so that kinda kills my thought train.

By the way whats the actual back story to kenshi or if there is any so i could maybe find a viable way for plate armor to work, i cant find a forum post on it.

I agree with this, I don't want this to be oriented to just one style. I want more variation, more surprises (and more Scotish greatswords and muslim smicitars for me and my team >:D). Go ahead, say that it will break the atmosphere. I don't think so, I want more than just one style, I want to see more styles, like African tribal, or even Indian/Aztec (actually the last is optional lol). I want Kenshi to be a big world with nations that I can distinguish by just more than a flag. I mean seriously guys, did the barbarians knew the romans by first looking at their flags? No, they recognized them by their Greek-like architecture (they were heavelly based off Greece) and Roman hail (NOT NAZI HAIL) and my favourite - the arrogant, unskilled and snobish centurions. The Moors were also recognized by their tunics, smicitars and tanned skin. It's not just the flag, it's also how they dress (and their horrible manners, in EVERY battle. That's right imperial lords, I'm talking about YOU!)

Well, depending on how you define plate armour, I think we already have some (Called Junkyard Samurai armour or something, wasn't it?). We don't have any European stuff, as far as I know... but, since the theme is of Kenshi, Japanese types of metal armour are probably a better investment.
However, I do think there should be considerations put into Power Armour, as some people have mentioned. The Power Armour might even look sort of like European medieval armour (it normally does, in sci-fi, like the Brotherhood of Steel and the like).
