Bandit Lairs

are similar to trading-outpost - simply a few buildings in the desert.

Difference is, that bandit lairs are not visible on the map until discovered.
Also bandit lairs can send out raiding-parties in certain intervals and have a high-bounty leader.

Similar to the town controlling factions - different bandit factions have their Lair in different regions of the map.

Conquering a Bandit Lair brings your faction fame, can be part of a quest or simply for the loot and the bounty of the leader.

After destroying a bandit lair a new one will appear after a while at a different location, but in the same region of the map.

I believe bandit outposts or whatever willl be implemented later on, For now they just spawn on the map...

Offc bandits shouldnt be much of trouble 1s u got a nice squad together, its the War factions that concern me later on :-), As for now its just random bandits passing by imagine an army coming tio destroy your city. Ahh the thrill of an upcoming battle i cant wait. Man the guns ... hmm we dont have any  Better send our wifes then :D .

I will post this here since it's closely related to this topic.

The bandits building outposts at random places ain't good idea. (I have a feeling that sometimes when you get unlucky, dozens of bandits building in different places might get the map crowded too quickly)
The random spawning of these outposts might be a good idea. (Eventually map will get crowded but not so quickly)

Now to these ideas of mine (which i got after reading the Deathsteels thread. Thank you everyone)

This will be a rough copy paste from that thread, but I will try to modify it to be more easier to read and understand.

-Bandits are attacking certain cities a lot, will they eventually be able to take over it?

This spawned an idea:

The idea of returning from your long travels to sell stuff you got cheap and notice that the city has been run over, guards has been slaughtered, women ♥♥♥♥♥, men slaved and imprisoned by bandits. From here you either
A) Charge head on with all of your rage and at least try slaughtering every bandit you see with your massive murderous intent
B) Stealth in, kill the bandits guarding the storage, free the men from their captors and after arming them at storage room, massive fight for freedom starts.
C) Try your luck at selling goods to bandits
D) Join them
E) Attract a rivalry bandit faction to make them fight among each other and follow plan A or B afterwards
F) Move on to next city where you 1)Inform guards what happened and lend them help 2)Inform but do nothing else. 3)Sell your goods and move on

Of course no captions etc popping up demanding what you do will not be appearing, these decision are in your head and you may approach the situation as you see fit.

-Where do bandits come from?

From bandit lairs.

-So if I kill the leader of the lair and capture their resources, there would be no more bandits?

if there's any bandits still alive (there's usually few gangs wandering around the nearby areas), after you breached their sturdy defenses and fought small army of them, the ones still alive would try joining nearby lairs or try recruiting new ones (single wanderers that spawn from time to time) to grow their numbers and when there's enough of them, they would try taking over small outposts or one of their original lairs back. I might be wrong but this way I think that the feature or lairs might stay alive a little longer.

Also when there's certain amount of bandits in a lair, small army of them would go out to try to take over outposts or small villages. There would also be few lairs with bigger population cap so they might be able to take over small cities from time to time. (The owner faction would of course try to retaliate from another city.) These events could be one of the ways for players to affect economy in the nearby areas and the factions causing the event. Players could help one of the sides get the ownership of the city and also gaining reputation with the faction that the players helped.

-Why do bandits have resources? Basically you just wait until they have tons of stuff and take over them to get rich.

There would be "Black marketers" travelling from lair to lair to maintain economy between them and also occasionally trade with normal traders they meet out in the deserts.
They would be more focused on contraband items and occasionally get caught by guards when selling them too close to cities and sent to prison or to be hanged etc.
This would allow player to join bandits and still be able to trade with traders without having to kill all the guards nearby. They would also be source of "risky" money if you are willing to risk everything by selling contraband items.
