What about this ?
If I want to have a team of five people and still have a group of 25 or individually selected certain character's from the team, why not make the ability to assign units. That is, choose 5 or 6 in the team and the character's save them by giving the name of the bookmark as a Total War, when you're from a pile of orders assigning them to do some hot key

I believe that is something planned, or a similar thing to the future as there will be way more characters to contol, so there mght be the need of place units between the large groups.
