Hey. This is my first post, but I've been following Kenshi for a while. Great game. It's going to be massive.
I wanted to put this idea forward. Stop me if it's impossible. Essentially, these are building segments (interiors only) that can be constructed under the walkmesh; they snap together at designated intersections. All segment floors would be flush to the X axis. Tunnel entrances and exits would use ramps (not pictured) to rejoin the interior walkmesh to the exterior.
Modular Subterranean Buildings would aim to expand Kenshi's already great gameplay by:
1. Creating new construction strategies (for instance, tunneling through an impasse to reach otherwise inaccessible resources, artifacts, or NPCs);
2. Diversifying economic opportunities (for instance, factions could run toll tunnels using toll-booth segments);
3. Broadening the tech tree (All elements could be researchable);
4. Expanding storytelling potential (dungeons, cloning facilities, and cave-palaces—all the Holy Empires have them).
A big part of Kenshi's allure is the game-world's huge spectrum of power and wealth. We all know that the most powerful megalomaniacal warlords live in sprawling underground complexes. I mean, who wouldn't?

I didn't know the empire had cloning facility's, or underground palaces. Well anyway, this is a neat idea

It's true, other nations have used this. In the Vietnam War, basic underground caves were built. In these caves people lived, planned, ate and breathed. There was a small hole through which oxygen went through and were hidden by the vegetation. You might said no one could have come up with this, but let's face it... mines are technically the same, except they are closer to the surface.
But this wold have to require alot of funds, resources and time.

I think something that could go hand in hand with this sort of idea is terrain deformation/earth moving. You could dig ditches/moats around your base, level up an area where you wanted to build a few buildings, or make crude, temporary walls for a military bivouac.

I'd enjoy this. If we could have subterranean buildings, then surely we could also have multiple story buildings. Right now, it seems as though the engine won't support such a thing.

Actually it sounds more like classic x-com bases to me. Which is cool, but we already have the ability to create a city above ground. So what sets an underground base apart from our city-building?
The only thing I can think of is that it would be easier for an underground base to be considered strictly military, but it would still need above ground support for food and such.
Mad props on creating a drawing sample of your Feature Request BTW.

A we could make PYRAMIDSlike Egypt
B we could I'd rather be below ground harder to attack me then

Or they could be for other reasons as weather/climate, for zones a lot prominent to natural disaster or unstable weather, would fit as a safe during those times, which could also make unwanted travelers to come seek protection while it with some green or force with some iron.
Gren... or are cats multi colored as well?

While we are on this subject, I'd like outposts that are like raised platforms that sit people. With food and water caravans that you can set up to refuel them so your people can watch for enemies at your borders and report back. It'd create some cool stuff. And scenes!

This sort of thing would indeed have alot of bugs attached but its doable.
It could be implemented as a high tier tech and maybe even one of those area exclusive tech's Chris was taking about.
When i think of this, i think Naruto and the many orochimaru hideouts. Gota have some traps in there to hehe.

Oh god why, isles? I like anime, but *please* use a better example than a shonen anime.

Got another Idea, why its useful to expand Subterranean.
What about Mining?
http://www.lofigames.com/phpBB3/viewtop ... ing#p27173
I hate the way of mining yet. You "build" a heap of ore out of building materials and gain ore.. find the mistake...
for the first, okay, but Subterranean Mining will solve this problem. the free Room that you´ve mined out, you can use otherwise..
