Battle field tech

I think there should be deployable battlefield tech like small iron spikes that would slow down an enemy charge and damage thier feet or putting oil on a boulder high up and lighting it and rolling down on your enemies things like that

I think this is a really good idea.
If players could create basic fortifications and tools of war. It would really give alot more to large scale battles.
It would also give the battlefield location a more defining aspect in the game.
(this kinda goes into an already open post but)
Being on the "High ground" would mean alot more than a good veiw or longer arrows. It would give you additional tactics because of gravity, so you could rol things dwn the hill. Likewise being at the bottom of a hill, you could take advantage of gravity by having traps or spiked polles or slippery ground.
in basic: having these sort of things would provide tactics to both sides and not make a battle instantly one sided because they had the "high ground"
it could also add to drawn out battles like medical tents with beds ect (tho a player could just build base) but i wont go into any more

I rather like the idea of caltrops, pit falls, quicklime, battlefield adhesives balls (designed throw at the enemy breaking on impact and covering them with an adhesive designed to slow their movement), or smoke grenades. Oh and considering we'll have other biomes and animals later, bait.
Such items seem quite fun.

Well, I've always liked the idea of pre-fab deployables in Kenshi. I don't see how weapons couldn't apply to that. It's a good post, not much to add beyond the obvious. Siege equipment etc.
I suppose even now a pretty devestating tactic is kiting an opponent into a waiting battle line, rinse and repeat with whomever pulls aggro. Kiting them into traps would play about the same, without having to micro your line. Though I suspect this sort of thing may go away eventually.
I kinda dig the notion of bowling flat a horde of bandits chasing someone up a hill... I can see the physics now. Heck I could use something like that at my ravine covered base location now.
If sneaky ninja type gameplay is on the table, there's a definite use for this stuff that transcends the open battlefield already. Sure, why not.

Maybe traps like this that instantly cripple a leg

I'd also like to see Ballistas And/or catapults for siege warfare

I thought I had posted in this thread, but it turns out I was thinking of your fairly similar "useable environment" thread Mafearaak. You have a strange obsession with rolling boulders to the tops of hills, it reminds me of Ivan Bouldershoulder, wanting to stick boulders into trees.
We're still not to the point that traps or caltrops would add a lot to gameplay, in sandy environments this sort of thing is a lot less useful than it would be in mountainous or forested regions.
Another common leg trap had the spikes embedded in the sides of the pit angled downward, so if you tried to pull your leg free it would impale your leg and do significant muscle damage.
When it comes down to it, we'll undoubtedly see siege weapons of some sort, perhaps grappling hooks to scale walls for smaller incursions. The way I see it we'll have new biomes and ranged weaponry before we start to lay out deployable traps to shape battlefield terrain on the fly. We may see some more defense oriented structures before that, I imagine we'll see more concerted AI interactions with hostile factions first, then ranged weaponry.
In other words, something of this nature is undoubtedly planned, but it is far enough out that nothing is set in stone. Keep the ideas coming, you never know what may wind up interesting Chris, and that is what this section of the forums is all about.

There is a difference between traps and ambushes. That being that traps are executed and sprung using preparation, and can be executed by a single person. Ambushes rely on larger numbers instead of preparation, and cannot be executed with just one person.
