There are two systems that I'd like to suggest:
-A morale / vengeance system that functions based on damage / K.O. status of allies / squad members.
-A critical status system that functions based on the Fight or Flight principle.

-Firstly, how about a system where downing an opponent (or having an ally being downed) invokes some kind of positive or negative change to the other squad members? I was playing with a solo character against a bunch of Dust Bandits, and after knocking out the Dust Bandit boss, none of the other bandits seemed to really care and kept trying to attack me with no noticeable change in their behavior whatsoever.

Playing with the idea of a morale system, maybe some of those bandits should've been a bit demoralized and taking a temporary debuff (lowering their stats like their attack skill, attack speed, etc). They might even be so demoralized, that they'll choose to run instead of fight.

On the other hand, some of these bandits can actually be really loyal to their allies, and would gain a temporary Rage buff (increasing their stats). This system could work for player characters and allies as well.

-Second, the critical status system should be pretty self-explanatory. Both, enemies and allies could (randomly?) be granted a temporary buff to their Attack and Defensive stats as well as adrenaline that can ignore crippled limbs. The buff could also increase movement speed so that there's an option to run to buy time for reinforcements to come and help. I'm actually wondering if this might be affected by the "Warrior Spirit" stat.

None of these buffs would last very long, but it might give some flavor to how battles are fought and won (or lost).
