As i understand it, in the future, wells will become dependent on finding water thru prospecting. But what if there is none? I propose a moisture condensers similar to what was in starwars, or what the fremen in dune used, for those ultra nasty, hateful environments.

If there is another thread with something similar, mods please move this there, nothing came up when i did "moisture" in the search.

I think the idea is not to be able to produce every resource in any place but to produce something where it's possible and what you can't produce, either import it from somewhere else or establish an outpost where it is possible to produce.

I think water could be one of those things you just can't find in any place.

Hmmm, that does make things a little different. i also keep forgetting that the automation is not finished, so that in the future, it will most likely be very possible to have caravans bring food and water to the remote outposts.

When thirst will be implemented, water will become an issue. Moisture condencer might be able to produce enough water for drinking, but if you want farms and production you would still need a well.

Not a bad idea. Sounds like a decent replacement for wells in areas with a bad water table. Seems a little star wars-y too.

The only problem I have is that you have to remember that the final map will not be entirely desert. The final map is planned to have a variation of biomes and climates, meaning that moisture collectors will only be really useful in some parts of the map. Then again, I'd use them in a swamp too, because its probably easier to get sanitary drinking water from them, then it would be for filtered swamp water (especially considering the whole "potentially an alien planet" thing).
