I got the idea while i was reading about burials. But maybe your faction could have some form of honor stat that is affected by what others witness you doing? Maybe even something more complicated than that but that'll be for Chris to figure out if he likes the idea. I just like the realism factor of a group of people who are know for treating others kindly and honorably changing the way others interact with them. For example, and again I'm referring to the burials, if you were to treat the dead of your fallen foe with respect and were constantly helping others selflessly then your honor stat would go up. But if you were to take advantage of others and cause them harm then it would go down. I don't think that every little decision should change this though, and i also kinda feel like the higher/lower your honor the more dramatically it changes in the opposite direction. A selfless traveling doctor selling people to there death would be far more impactful with the way people view his actions compared to some thug who is constantly raping, pillaging, and murdering.

I'm liking this idea better than previously anticipated because before, I always just thought that "honor" or "prestige" could just be encompassed by diplomatic relations with the faction, but in all honesty, it would add another level of depth to diplomacy in-general.

Take OP's example of properly burying the fallen of your enemy.
This act would be rarely witnessed by members of the opposing faction or even by ANY NPCs that could be connected in some way to the fallen, but it is still an honorable act.

Perhaps this would be best implemented as a hidden "Karma" value with each faction.
Currently, the disposition of each faction changes with two values:
  • The immediate temporary disposition
The long-term disposition that will tend in the direction of the temporarily current disposition until the temporary disposition decays back to 0
The amount the long-term disposition will change depends on the absolute value of the temporary disposition (farther from 0 changes long-term disposition more)
The Karma value would change according to acts that are not witnessed or otherwise shouldn't affect the temporary disposition. Turning in bounties to specific factions could increase Karma with the faction paying the bounty while it decreases Karma with the faction of the prisoner.
Then, the Karma value would affect how much the temporary disposition will change when a member of that faction finally witnesses an act you commit.

To give an example of how implementing this system would work, say Mr. Floppy works for you as an amateur thief and has been training his Thievery skills on unsuspecting civilians' homes in the Holy Nation town of Eyesocket, but no civilians are around to witness him.
Your Karma with the Holy Nation would decrease by (random arbitrary number) 1 each time he attempted to pick a lock, whether he failed or succeeded, because this is an act viewed unfavorably by the Holy Nation faction.
Then, there is that one fateful moment when a civilian finally witnesses Mr. Floppy picking a lock, and your temporary disposition with the Holy Nation drops into the negative. Because Mr. Floppy racked up all that negative Karma with the Holy Nation, it could act as a tendency value on the temporary disposition that would affect it to be further in the negative than if you had a Karma value of 0 with the Holy Nation, or Karma could even act a multiplier to the temporary disposition (as Karma does tend to be the ultimate form of justice, whether it be big or small)
