It would be nice to easily spot rare items (good quality) directly on corpses, like a sparkle.
When you have killed 40 bandits opening 40 inventories it is a real pain and if you have to do that again and again this is the difference between funny and boring. i have killed every bandits and cannibals in +/-20 imported games and since a long time i don't loot anything any more, this is a waste of fun and this is boring as hell.

You won't get anything good from bandits. Looting is no good except for when beginning a new game, to sell in shops for money. Everything you want you will ultimately be crafting yourself. I don't really have a grief against this suggestion, but again.. You'll be better off crafting. At what point do you consider "sparkle-worthy"?

I had heard that you can get "good" quality armors off of higher bounty bandit bosses. But no weapons. Other than that, all the other bandits have useless weight.

You can have better armor parts the good one from bandits than crafting.

No this is not the point a game must still be user friendly and not boring, looting 100 bodies will take ALOT of time, this is boring and the corpses will despawn before beeing looted.
it is happening all the time when you are fighting packs of 100+ bandits/cannibals..
and since money is not needed much you don't loot bodies.
I have 800K this is nothing since you can have 800K in no time and so looting is the latest thing you are doing if you have no real reason to loot corpses and you stop looting mobs after 10 hours in the game.

This and kenshi shouldn't be an easy SHINY game.

I would ask that if the sparkle ever gets added, that there be a toggle for it in options. I would never begrudge other players their shinies, but it would seriously detract from the feel of the game for me. I just can't imagine it not looking stupid against the backdrop of the rest of the game.

Maybe a better thing is to add a loot all option.. that comes with the new ui - that just puts the items from a squad in one accessible ui.. only squad members with-in a certain area and who are loot-able.. are displayed..

Equipped items can just have a little e on them, and look something like a shop window.. with pages if the squad was really big.. to fit everything..

Mass looting is boring, and not fun.. and once we have moved on from savaging - we may be more likely to loot enemies if we can do it quickly..

Then to go with this a small icon could be on items in inventory that shows the items rank so you can view with out mousing over, and can just see it. This can be the usual D-C-B-A-S rank or something different.. This is better imo then sparkle items because.. of various reasons.. and useful for more reasons then just knowing that one guy has a shiny..

I am tending towards the realism side of this topic.

Kenshi's focus is mainly "work to earn what you have" and therefore, it would be unwise to make specific items, weapons, armor, etc. any easier to find than generic trash lying all over the place.

If there is some incredible weapon buried at the bottom of a pile of bodies, it shouldn't reach out to passersby with a magical light or be detected by some omnipotent power.

I have no problem with any decision now do you really think everyone will loot all the corpse one by one all the time?
Looting corpses is boring and useless since you will make MUCH more money with crafting.
i am now talking to veteran players, are you really still looting corpses?
All of them?

A nice item should AT LEAST be visible if the inventory is opened, otherwise you will have to click on each boddy way for the roll over to show you the stats of every item.
I like, the grey, white, green, blue, purple'n gold thing

The realism is ok, but boredon is realistic in the real world. ;)

No, and those that don't may occasionally miss something. That's normal and expected. It's not going to cripple your character, or set you back a month of progress, or affect you in any way at all, really. If you're really desperate for a good weapon, you're GOING to be looting every single body. If not, then what does it matter if you happen to miss something? You weren't looking, so you must not need it very much.

You won't see sparkly items because, why is it sparkling? It's not sprinkled with faerie dust. Swords aren't enchanted with Balrog souls. You don't craft them with Naga teeth. They are metal. Leather. Materials that actually exist. I'm sick of high-fantasy and sci-fi. Kenshi scratches the 'realism' itch.

This isn't WoW or Diablo. It's not going to hold your hand and make it all brightly coloured and sparkly like Babby's First RPG. This is a good thing! It'll force you to pay attention if you really want to be a min-maxer. If that's too much effort for you, then just play the game normally and stop worrying about that 2 gold you left on the floor.

Let's say you have a pile of swords in front of you in real life. Some are ornate, others plain. How do you know which ones are 'good'? You need to inspect them closer. Feel the balance. Test the edge. You can't tell just by glancing over them. Many of those ornate swords turn out to be blunt. If you were judging them purely by looks, you'd completely overlook the plainest swords with the sharpest, most balanced blades.

Kenshi already simplifies this reality enough, by giving you a tooltip that tells you the exact stats of the sword on mouse-over. One might even argue that this is too easy; that the party should include someone skilled in blades, to be able to read their stats accurately. As it is, the current system requires the basest of effort from the player. Any simpler and it'd be getting sponsorship deals from Fisher Price.

Unfortunately, WoW has taught you that amongst all the swords in that pile, the best ones are made of neon plastic, with sparkling beads glued all over the 'blade' and fireworks strapped to the hilt. Bonus damage if it squeaks when you hit something! Abandon this philosophy. There are so many games out there that cater to this kind of low-effort, childlike, style-over-substance gameplay. Kenshi is a rare game in that it's trying to be a lot more grown up, do things that actually make sense. Gamers are starved for this kind of depth. The market is flooded with games that cater to the ADD generation.

Even adding this feature as a toggle would fundamentally change the way some people think about and play the game, and their expectations won't mesh with the rest of Kenshi's design. Today it's "sparkly items", tomorrow it will be raid bosses, buff magic, and an omnipresent Auction House.

No.

Yeah kenshi's main theme is that the player is not special. The game makes sure to not hold the player's hand. In an interview, Chris was asked "how do you bring people into this huge world, and nudge them in so that they don't get slaughtered?" He responded "I don't. I let them get slaughtered." Theme-wise having loot sparkle is away too hand holding. "Hey loot this, ignore everything else. Grinding for drops made easy!"

Aesthetically, Kenshi is a very rust, dirty, lived in environment. Specific instructions are given to the artist to make sure things don't appear clean and sterile like the prequel star wars movies. Having things sparkle in this art style would be just... wrong.

So yeah sparkling loot doesn't fit in this game.

I can agree with OP in this aspect.
The current color-coding system for weapons seem to be random (aside from rusting junk and extreme low quality gear) as weapons ascend from 003 to the Industrial vs. Catan and so on.

It would be enjoyable, and it wouldn't detract from Kenshi's focus, to have some sort of organization with the color scheme relating to weapons' grades/qualities.

Like in SW:TOR, the names of items are color-coded according to their function, as opposed to their rarity, usefulness, or some other player-determined quality.

In my mind, bringing this system to Kenshi would mean:
  • Rusty grade weapons' names will be semi-translucent gray
003 grade weapons' names will be the current color, white
Industrial grade weapons' names will be green
Catan grade weapons' names will be blue
Mk. grade weapons' names will be purple
Edge Type grade weapons' names will be orange
I randomly picked colors for these, but I hope you understand my logic.
This won't make the weapon seem any more or less valuable, it will just allow the player to hover over a weapon and be able to identify the grade.

As previously mentioned, you don't have to loot every single body on the ground unless you're dirt poor or actually need a weapon better than rusting junk (assuming you aren't looting Starving Bandits), since everything you craft will, eventually, be better than anything you can loot.
And, at some point, not looting every single body will cause you to miss some specific weapon, armor, or item, but this is fine since it is possible to enjoy the entire game while completely naked and armed with a single rusting wakisashi.

All of them?
Don't need to.
i trade for starters because of all the running thats involved. so i am training while i make cats. and when i can afford the starting amount of building materials i change to making my outpost and making money off crafting. its very rare i ever loot a corpse any more.

So the rare item sparkle would be of no use for me since i make everything i wear and use now. if it did have something like that i should be tied into the skills.
Like a armourer sees a piece of armour and goes oh that looks like a quality piece. it would show up in text only. and that would be your only hint.
Other then that i would have to say no to the rare item sparkle. it don't fit into what i see kenshi becoming.
Do you believe the sexes should be equal?
Oh heavens no.
Then Men would become unmanageable

Didn't read most of the discussion but sparkling belongs to MMORPGS and platformers. I prefer realism.

Some sort of a color code for the names of the weapons might go though. Just to see little faster if the item is worth keeping without investigating every bit of stats.
