You find yourself traveling through the desert on a trade run when you suddenly come upon the scene of a recent battle. There are numerous dead bodies strewn around and you nervously look around for signs of enemies that may still be in the area, but there are none. "Ah! Free weapons and gear to sell at the next town!" you think to yourself. You run up to the bodies to loot them when suddenly these dead guys jump up and attack you. You fell into an ambush! Those dastardly bandits weren't dead, but were merely playing at it and suddenly you find yourself in quite the predicament.

I think it would be cool if Bandits (and others) could intelligently play dead to lure you into a trap. Of course this would be meaningless if you could see their status as "playing dead" or that all their health was full. So it would be nice/important to have them be able to fake how hurt they are and also their status set to "dying" or recovering from a "coma" state. I think this would add another great element of tactics and strategy. Instead of gleefully running up to a recent battle to loot all the incapacitated bodies for some quick and easy cash/gear you'll need to warily approach them to make sure you're not walking into a trap, or avoid them altogether if you're unprepared to deal with the risks.

Some wording in this latest update for the medical system makes mention of "playing dead". Its also mentioned under things that give Toughness XP, so likely this will be an option in the future.

Thank you for your comment.

As for playing dead, yes I know it's already a feature - it's just that currently you can only "play dead" if you have been incapacitated already and then come to while the enemy is still around. It is a reactive ability rather than a proactive one. What I am suggesting is that one (particularly NPC's and bandits) can use the ability to "play dead" even if they have not been attacked, gravely injured, or anything, so as to try luring people into traps. As it is currently many people see injured/dying people out in the middle of a desert and immediately think "free gear" or "easy money" and rashly (in a real world, bandit infested, setting) run out to loot them without stopping to consider it may be a trap.

Anyways, just some thoughts. One thing that greatly interests me in this game is that you have to carefully weigh your options - there are some tough people out there that could easily kick your butt if you're not careful. These features I am suggesting, if implemented correctly, could increase this aspect by making you consider more carefully the choices before you and the consequences that may arise. What you may see as easy loot or money may in fact be some of the aforementioned tough people waiting to kick your butt and rob you blind.

I was more speculating that this feature you are requesting may or may not be on the list of things to be implemented in the future.
I feel that the ability to "execute" any body lying on the ground (whether unconscious, dying, or dead) would mesh well with OP's feature request, as some of the bodies on the ground might not actually be dead yet.
If this "execution" ability is considered, I feel that it should be implemented after NPC factions get more variance in their squads so that each NPC squad will have a low "executioner":squadsize ratio. This would prevent every NPC and their bodyguards from being able to "execute" your squad members as soon as they are KO'd.
Can make a new thread about this, if need be, but its pretty closely related to OP's request.

I suspect the ability for NPCs to proactively play dead to lay ambushes won't happen till blood is back in the game. It would make sense to be able to detect an ambush via the amount or lack of blood on the ground / bodies. That being said, I like the idea of NPCs laying traps for you.

The blood on the ground would be a good tell if the bodies are an ambush or not, but that may or may not detract from the fun of being ambushed (currently you are able to run away indefinitely from any threat you encounter).

Ok I looked briefly in the search for "play dead" but didn't find much about a button to have your guys play dead after a wipe. nothing worse than your guys getting up one after another only to draw the enemy back over and over again. you couldn't kill then in a group so what makes them think they can take them on single handedly? I find myself hovering over the exit button thinking screw this! I don't mind getting wacked or even the long wait for recovery from unconscious but just let the damn guys move away before you get up to help your team. been watching this game for a long time and just decided to buy it after seeing the new biome pics and the hint of creatures. hope they keep it up. I know what an alpha is and im not trying to dis the game just think that is an area that needs to be fixed and im sure they (devs) have seen this as an issue. Oh yeah and if you are one of those people who get mad about things already being brought up in a different thread.... don't care... You caught me on one of those days where I want to vent! never understood forum police...
