Colored Uniforms

I miss the days when you could get different colored equipment by looting it from members of different factions, has this idea been discarded? Is there any plan to replace it in some way? I would like to see an option for dying equipment or one to select the color an item will be when it's crafted. Squad members feel a bit disconnected unless they're all wearing the same thing (and there's plenty of reasons to want squad members with different equipment setups).
